The First Game You Ever Beat

And I mean this as in no cheats, guides, or even help from a sibling/friend. Just you, the game, and around 20-30 total hours of free time.

Mine was Star Fox 64, and damn did I earn that. It took me easily 10 times through the game to do it (there is no saving if you are unfamiliar), and when I did I was screaming and dancing and getting yelled at because it was 1230 am and I shouldnt even be up.

So what was your first victory, and how did you celebrate?

well there were some games I don't even remember well, I was five or something. some vinnie pooh guy was walking around, collecting mushrooms and drawing shit...

the first one worth noticing was Duke Nukem. I've beat it again not so long ago.

I tried to beat Megaman X like 20 times but never managed to kill the final boss. I'm looking for revenge so if you know where can I get that game (first part) please link it to me.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone on PC... Just about the first game of any kind I owned.

Way of the exploding fist - Commodore 64, 1985-6(ish) although my father owned an arcade, so I certainly had the top scores on a few space invader clones and the old star wars game around the same time (there generally was no real end to those games).

Super Mario World on the SNES when I was 6 years old. Took me nearly a year of constant daily playing, but for a 6 year old I would say thats not too bad!

I'm not sure. Probably Teacher Busters (C64), if that counts. Was around 9 years old I think. Trouble is my siblings and I played all the classic SNES games together... the first one I beat on my own was either Lufia (Estpolis II) or Terranigma (Tenchi Sozo), can't remember. I bought those the minute they'd come out. Took 21 hours or so from start to finish for Terranigma if I recall correctly, not sure about Lufia. Shouldn't have sold the cartridges.... ah well.

I loved"the way of the exploding fist"

Surprisingly for me, it was Rise of the Dragon on the PC. It was just some game lying around the basement but it had a cyberpunk look to it and I was deeply into that genre back then so I gave it a try. I'd never played a computer RPG before then so the very beginning was very confusing for me and I got no where. After a while, I gave it another go and, I think, another. Luckily, at some time, I figured out how get past where I was stuck and the rest of the game went relatively smoothly. Before I knew it, I had finished the game! I was very surprised when I did and I think I felt a sense of accomplishment.

Since then, there have been very few games I have actually finished although it does occasionally happen...

Probably some educational game. But the first non educational game I beat was probably pokemon crystal on the Game Boy color (which was also the first game I had... and was around 12 when I got it)... I think the first non hand-held console game I beat was jedi powerbattles for the PS1.

Some old game called SAM2 on PC, but I might got some couching from my father earlier on, so the first game I positively know I did for myself, as you say, just me and the game, was Zelda: the ocarina of time, the first game that I bought to that didn't come with the used N64 we had. But then again, this I played a lot with friends before getting it. damn.. umm. rule out all games I tried with cheat codes first, all games where I helped friends beat it before beating it myself, all games played with friends before beating the story (the multiplayer gave some great training at some games)
It might be GTA III, 4-5 months before Vice city came out I finally beat it after a good amount of mission retrys, the dicking around with cheat codes when not doing missions don't count right? (this count since I wasn't allowed to let other underage kids play high rated games with me. Me, "you know what's real and not from all the movies you have watched")
Could also be another PS2 game, but I don't really remember

The celebration when finally beating that frigging last mission on GTA III:
I jumped up and down a little before making myself a banana split to celebrate.

Wonder Boy in Monster Land on the Sega Master System.
Oh man, fond memories of wonderboy. Not playing it, because I was 8 and it was an arcade game at my old daycare (yeah, that daycare was awesome) and I had no $. But I watched loads of people play it, and they looked like they were having a blast.

Yah something like that.

Either super mario world, or super mario kart... I started world first, but it's a longer game, so I don't know which I ended first...

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game. Only cost 10p a go so I hammered it out for less than ,£3. First console game I beat was Mario on the SNES.

First game I ever beat...

Pitfall for the coleco vision.

Final Fantasy.

I don't get why you say you "beat" a game. This seems to imply that playing a game is only about the challenge and not about story or immersion. Back when I was a kid we used to say we'd completed a game, and the first game I completed was probably something like Renegade on the ZX Spectrum, although I'm not 100% sure of that...

yeah, back then Mario hat me glued to the chair. Was he going to rescue the prince or find another weird dude with fungus growing on his head? But seriously, you can beat a game and still enjoy immersion and story, provided it even has a notable story. Some games aren't even fun on easier difficulties.

As with many others, I don't remember my first game, but Super Mario Brothers 3 was one of the first notable ones. No savegames back then. Luckily I somehow found the flutes without even knowing about the internet.
