The bible corrected... A funny idea.

I was thinking that it might be funny to go through the bible/koran and "correct" it. For example, rewrite the stories as they might be told in current times in current language in the way that they would have been presented back when they were created, as bardic stories.

In other words, correct it in such away it reads as it would be read if the bardic traditions still existed and make it so people can, not only, understand it, but actually want to read and hear it.

Why do this? Simply put, a lot of people say that reading the actual books is what caused them to become atheists. If we made it more entertaining and accurate to what it is saying so that people can understand and get through it then it seems like it would be a nice big slap to the face in response to theists...

Further it would be interesting to critique and explain each story after it too to make it an even bigger and more effective device.

Another thing this might cause is that atheists could carry a book and look up and present quick reference information in defense without explaining the internet to someone.

Not a new idea...

But one could still have some fun with it. Also simpsons have done some "remakes" of bible tales.

You might be able to have some fun with a similar play, like the works of Shakespear in 40minutes, except for the bible. Could do it modern or ancient, parody... could be fun.

I love that episode :D There are so many great parts! It is a great series in general.

As to "fixing" the bible I am of two minds. On one hand, it would be nice to have something like that to show creationists when they start with their crap. It might be educational for them. But on the other hand I think it would take to long to fix. There is just too much stuff that just doesn't make sense.

I'm guessing you didn't stumble across me saying that it would be useful in situations where you can't be carrying around a PC/internet connection.

No need to get offended, I'm trying to be helpful here. Plus, you can always print it off. :D

tonal text failure... i was being sarcastic. i wasn't offended,

that isnt well done enough nor is it in a good format for book form.

Fair enough, sometimes it's hard to tell between sarcasm and sincerity with mere text.

Another idea would be to create an equal length book that is what science has shown us thus far that is nice and compact... though that might be a bit hard to do considering so much info.

Fantastic link, never been easier to discover, identify and refrence the sheer volumes of contradications in the blible. Just brushing through Genisis, I found a load of stuff that I quite simply could help but laugh at. I just loved this verse about the great flood for some reason:
"Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered." - Genesis 7:20

But of course there's plenty of other equally stupid claims in there.

That is my favourite bible quote and is excellent at crushing Noah's Flood claims. After all 15 cubits is about 20 foot/7 metres, not enough to cover a hill!

There are some flood literalists who use this as a counterargument to the scientific fact that there just isn't enough water for a global flood - the Bible tells us that mountains were much shorter in Noah's time!

If someone can find me a text version of the bible I might take a pop at this one!

That is if nobody else is already intending to do this - original post didn't seem too clear on whether this was an announcement of the project starting, or just someone throwing an idea about - I'd hate to accidentally steal a project as awesome as this one ;)!

Thomas Jeffereson has his own edited bible, he took out all of the miracles and kept Jesus' moral lessons.

Where exactly does it say that the mountains were shorter in Noah's time...?

I think it's far too much work for one person and for as much insight i could give to the project I don't care enough to do the research and such to fully do it. So steal away...

Also just look up King James Version on google and one of the first sites that come up is a library uploaded one to the net. Not sure about the legalities of using it though as KJV is public domain but not positive on those files.
