In a lot of ways it certainly is. I think the xkcd-comic really hits the nail on it's head in many respects :) I think that it is a similar phenomenon to the "teach both sides"-position in the ID-evolution debate, as if there is something inherently virtuous in not making up ones mind.

I also think that a major psychological reason for theism is the inability to withstand uncertainty. It reminds me of the 'my dad is stronger than your dad'-type of thinking, my dad is stronger than your dad because he is the heavenly father!

Yes, this is along my line of thinking. :D

Additionally, I discovered a study a while ago and I've since posted a link (too lazy to find atm) that suggested that there was a correlation between happiness and taking a firm position in either direction. I find that an interesting factor to consider. :D
