IRC seems to be down. I dunno why, but in the meantime I have setup a new irc channel on a different server.

The server and channel
irc.freenode.net
#lor

arg-fallbackName="Tynk"/>
You can join the original channel by one of the two following ways:

1: Go to http://www.mibbit.com/chat/
in the drop down menu select the server OFTC
Add your nick and the #LoR channel in the appropriate locations

2: Open your favorite Irc application
enter the server irc.oftc.net
enter port 6667
click connect
type /join #LoR

Hrm, I have been busy this weekend so haven't looked into it. Maybe they changed ip addresses, or they are blocking irc.leagueofreason.org.uk - will try to get time to look at it tomorrow

arg-fallbackName="Tynk"/>
PING irc.leagueofreason.org.uk (130.239.18.160): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 130.239.18.160: icmp_seq=0 ttl=46 time=163.616 ms

PING irc.geo.oftc.net (140.211.166.64): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 140.211.166.64: icmp_seq=0 ttl=49 time=69.437 ms

the channel is up and functional if you connect straight to irc.oftc.net.

Both IP's belong to irc.geo.oftc.net

Looks like the OFTC server in Sweden may just be having issues.

Ok, I was in the OFTC help channel, apparently they took the sweden sever out of rotation.
Mibbit has a bug that does not release the dns cache. I am going to dig and see what I can find.

Ok, looks like it is a cache issue on the web server side of things. The mibbit web client is only set to attempt to connect to a server once, since OFTC using a rotating server list, once the server we connect to changes we will no longer be able to connect.

So I believe (not being able to look at the web server we use) that since we use the irc.leagueofreason.org.uk address, and we have that address pointed to a static IP, this issue will occur any time the server rotation shifts. Is it possible to point the irc.leagueofreason.org.uk at irc.ofct.net instead? If we could then when the servers change rotation we would never notice.

As far as I was aware irc.leagueofreason.org.uk pointed to irc.oftc.net.

I will attempt to rectify this asap, though if it requires some DNS changes it might take longer for some to get fixed than others.

Update
-----------

I was pointing irc. at what I thought was some sort of load balancer IP address but looks like that's not how their stuff works. Would explain why everyone always seemed to connect to the Swedish server. I have now changed it from an A record to a CNAME record which points at irc.oftc.net... Hopefully that will do the trick :) I am doing all this from my iPhone at the moment so cant easily test these things.

Another update
---------------------
have tested mibbit since DNS change and it connected me to larich.oftc.net which would suggest it is now working.
If you are connecting directly to the irc server with your own client it may not work straight away as your ISPs DNS cache may need time to expire and be updated.
