Something I thought the other day...

I don't know whether you'd consider this a quote or not, but whatever... What do you think of this quote....

"I have faith that I am right, because I have been shown to be wrong so many times."

That's really quite a bad quote. If you're thinking it'd be an analogy for the scientific process I'd rather rephrase it "I am confident I am right, because I can't be proven wrong.", but then again that says nothing.

Also, avoid the word faith. If you pull that up to any creationist you'll just get "Aha! So you have faith too!" back in your face, and you'll have to explain that difference.

Sounds like the words of a troll to me.

What was this about trolling, Joe?
It's a play on words... meant to have multiple meanings.
The problem is that to an outsider it doesn't sound as good. Only when you hear it in the context of your own thoughts does it have the right meaning.

Look at the phrase:
"I have faith that I am right, because I have been shown to be wrong so many times."

Doesn't that sound like a troll? "The more I am shown to be wrong, the more I will insist that I am right!"

It is all in how you read it, Joe.

It could read "I'm right, because my thinking has been refined by being shown that my previous thoughts were wrong"
or
it could read "I'm right, regardless of what you say"

Being vague is rarely good, unless you are looking to create something that everyone will get a different message out of of.
