SKYRIMMMMMMmmmmmmm

So there I was - first in line waiting for the release of Skyrim. I'd waited 3 hours, and then they open the doors with a line behind me stretching out the door and around the corner:

*Doors open*
Me: "YAAAAY! TIME TO GET ME SOME SKYRIM! :3"
Manager: "I've seen you waiting out there a good minute - well congrats, you're the first one to get it at midnight."
Me: "HELL YEAH."
*Front desk guy looks at me*
Guy: "You have your receipt?"
Me: "Receipt? Oh - I didn't pre-order. I came to buy the game straight-up."
Guy: "I'm sorry sir, but you have to wait outside until all the pre-orders are processed."

I have never wanted to tear a civilian's head off before for something so menial. 1st in line, 73rd served.
100% Bullshit.

ANYWAYS I eventually got my game - to which I can say is possibly the best shit I've ever played in terms of open-world roaming gameplay. And, as far as I can tell, they've stopped leveling the game to your level (YOU'RE LEVEL 20? NOW EVERYBODY YOU MEET IS LEVEL 20 OR SO!) and kept it with preset levels - they learned a lot with their encounters in the world of Fallout and random encounters in terms of difficulty and agro on enemies.

It is.
ARCHER MAGE WITH EXPERIENCE IN SNEAKING AND TALKING TO PEOPLE FTW

Though I don't know if I want to stretch some of my time into the realm of Alchemy/Potion making yet, or enchanting - Enchanting seems useful but you can only get that up by destroying Enchanted Weapons...
Oh, the Strategy Guide they had selling there was basically a Telephone Book. I don't use strategy guides though - I'm a fucking OG when it comes to playing RPGs

Just bought a new laptop today so I won't be seeing Skyrim in my hands for a while unless someone is kind enough to sponsor me. But one thing is for sure. It will look kickass on my laptop.

Arena, daggerfall, morrowind, oblivion, all top-games when they came out and they made skyrim even better.

200k players online in a singleplayer game must be the ultimate compliment for the makers.

Gotta say, I'm impressed.

I absolutely hated Oblivion - one of the worst games I ever played. This came out much better. It's almost like they actually listened to some of my criticisms of the game.

I'm not terribly far yet, I think - but really looking forward to more of the game.

I don't understand all of the Oblivion hate, I seem to have the opposite opinion of most people (I also hated Fallout 3). Skyrim is pretty but definitely more monotonous than Oblivion was. Everywhere I've been is covered in snow and the cities I've seen so far (Whiterun, Dawnstar, and Winterhold) have been a real let down. I also wish it was easier to fast travel, running through the woods for 15 minutes isn't my idea of fun, immersion be damned.

Oblivion was horrific. It was buggy, clunky, had too much limitation on keybinds(my only qualm with Skyrim so far is that I can't queue up abilities, I have to wade through menus if I want a variety of attacks), and it didn't handle high resolution well at all. On top of that the game itself was rather bland.

I've never heard an argument in its defense that didn't mention mods. I think a game should be able to stand up on its own merit. Skyrim does, Fallout 3 almost did, and Oblivion didn't come close. So, at this rate, whatever they release next should be fraking amazing.

Absolutely loving it :) Hopefully get to play some more tonight. Took me a while to used to the menus and working out how to bind weapons to number keys. But its all good now... The dragons are awesome.

Funniest glitch ever is when you get hit by a giant.... Flew 100 feet straight upwards lol

I like it, I've pretty much played through it.
I'm at the point where I can just stand and take a giants punches and kill it or do so with a dragon, but its still fun to go around and do all the stuff I haven't done.
Soon enough it'll be time to start on my next game, time to try the mage aspect instead of the two handed warrior.

I wish the Invisible Pink Unicorn had blessed me with a better PC. Core 2 Duo 2.2Ghz plus a 256MB video card just aren't holy enough.

How do you do bind weapons to number keys? :O

I didn't spend enough time messing with the keybinds apparently, I was frustrated by the lack of ability to do this.

It's a bit convoluted but what you do is go to your inventory, find the weapons/items you want to bind, favourite them all (F key while highlighting them).

Then get out of the inventory, then press Q for your favourites list, highlight the one you want and press one of the number keys, it'll put the number next to it. From then on you can switch to that weapon with that key, or assign a potion or scroll or whatever.

Interesting. I'll have to try it out when I get home from work. Any idea if that can be made to work with spells, also?

Thanks guys!

I loaded it up this morning and bound spells and weapons and went to town. It was so great being able to switch as I pleased. It's awesome.

I'll post screenshots and stats on my PC tomorrow morning for ya Nem. Graphically it's not all that - it's good, but it's only a small step up from FO3 (though a huge step up from the claymation style of Oblivion).
