11/11/11... gives me time to upgrade my PC into a near sentient mechanism of gaming ownage - bare minimum I'll need to give due credit.

Oh and getting Max von Sydow to do the narration... fà¶r bra!

I damned near passed out when I saw the trailer. And Max von Sydows narration is EPIC, I drooled on myself a little. Can't wait to play it!

Although I probably should finish Oblivion first.

You never finished Oblivion? Wow.

Meh... we only have one stationary computer. My husband does his graphics work on it as well, my gaming tends to come in second. Besides, I keep trying to create my ideal character and haven't stuck with one for long.
I'm a bit like that. I need that perfect character to finish a game. It was the same thing with Morrowind. I re-started it for a period of over six months to a year, then, when I found that great character combination I finished the game in no time at all.
I'm thinking about having a marathon session with Oblivion this coming weekend though.

Oh fine... I'll do the stuff I usually do during the week over the weekend and play when you're at work, how about that?

You guys know that oblivion's main story can be cleared in like, under 10 hours right? It's much easier if you never level your character up. I hope skyrim doesn't have that same leveling curve, i'm going to be wary until it comes out and has been out for a while. Their "dump the old engine and start from scratch" mentality has a tendency to bring bugs in.

Yeah I know, I've finished the main quest. You just level - just increase skills.

Their "keep and improve the old engine" mentality has a tendency to bring bugs too - it's pretty much Bethesda's signature, awesome games infested with bugs... sort of like a leper with a really good personality.

I never managed to work out the levelling problem. Are you saying that you just don't level at all? Do your stats still increase for better weapons/armour? Wouldn't this make all the fights incredibly easy?

Yup. The monsters are extortionate to your level, so if you do not level up they stay about the same difficulty. Your skills increase independent of your level so you can max out your prime skills before ever leveling up. Not a bad idea if you want to finish the main quest quickly, not so good for the overall experience of the game.

Oh, I know. I just don't like playing games that way. I did the same for Morrowind. It's the building of the character and the adventure I like the most. Raiding the caverns, rising to the head of the guilds... things like that. I do want to finish the main quest, but I like the way there much more.

Yeah, too easy or too hard and I just lose interest. I'll wait for the reviews of Skyrim before I buy.

I know. And I like sneaking around, raiding caverns and shooting things dead with a bow from. You just like being able to kill things in one hit. :p

Really annoyed me about oblivion that you can't get the unbreakable lockpick unless you are level 9ish or so.

My computer can't handle the pc version, but I do have it on PS3. The only way I could play it on the PC was if I put in the reseeded encounter map mod that level stripes the areas based on distance from the roads and relevance to the quest. I remember morrowind had a mod like that as well.

I don't recall arena having the 'finish the game at level 1' poblem.

I don't know... I do not believe Daggerfall had that problem either - though it had a fun one involving the shops.

Jeeeeeeeeezus I need this game, I hope Skyrim is much more difficult than Oblivion, my char was virtually invincible. I need to play Diablo 3 as well but I would probably die of old age before Blizzard releases it.

I like being able to just wander about, sadly Oblivion was a little small (in terms of content) for that, but still one of the best sandboxy games.
I played Vanguard for a while, which costs just a little too much considering almost nobody plays anymore.

I like putting on a custom enchanted red robe and killing everything on the map. If you want a challenge, annihilate the towns (without cheating!). I somehow end up doing that in every game, hahaha. (Fallout series, Elder Scrolls series) Then I get bored and never play again. But I digress.

Looking forward to it.
