Shattering the Business Stereotype

In our first advertising lecture after the Olympic break, our instructor dedicated the entire hour to the topic of "Branding a Country". There were more than a few teary eyes afterwards and everyone that I spoke with agreed that it was one of the pinnacle moments so far in our program.

While I'm sure many students were moved by the incredible content of the lecture and its appeal to our national pride, I'm sure there were others who experienced the same epiphany that I experienced several years ago. I'm referring to the realization of just how wide the scope of business actually is. It finally clicked that the skills they are learning have a versatility that reaches far beyond the psychological barriers common throughout our cultural with an application limited only by our own imaginations.

Our professor effectively shattered the business stereotype and established a perspective that is both useful and justified... And he did it all while sporting a pair of red and white hockey gloves from his youth and wielding a hockey stick as a pointing device.

Here is the result of what was described as a meticulously planned and well executed PR campaign targeted towards our neighbours to the south.

video itself is great (for you that is :D)

but, why the hell do commentators (or whatever hell you call them) speak in that oh-so-fascinating voice like it's a die hard 4 movie trailer? anybody else find this frustrating?

sorry for off topic.

I've got to admit to being a bit disturbed...
The video makes out Canada to be America Junior and with-American-qualities-even-if-not-as-developed, which is an odd take on it. And the patriotism in the video seems oddly unCanadian. But I suppose, it wasn't done by a Canadian? (the presenter is American?) ;)
Even so, I suppose it is nice to see things recognised that usually pass under the radar. :D

eh i think they figure an authoritative voice is more likely to be listened to, more attention grabbing, and more likely to be believed. for some reason though tom brokaw sounds like he's got a mouth full of rocks to me. lol

You have to keep in mind the piece was developed for an american audience. I loved it because the american attitude is always so dismisive and egocentric with regards to foreign nations. Canada is an important trading partner to the US but you wouldn't know it based on the general attitudes and sentiments. I think many countries can relate to that feeling.
