Sharia Law in the UK

Now, as I understand it, these are rather isolated groups and it is not as if London is under sharia law now; it is concerning however, that someone can be walking around and be attacked for not following some backwards Islamic morality in the eyes of these guys.

My question here is:

Should these guys' freedom of religion and culture (is that a freedom?) be such that beaviours like these should be tolerated?

How do you believe this matter should be dealt with? (Should they be expelled, imprisioned, fined?)

Do people living in foreign countries owe such countries to adapt to their culture or are people entitled to keep their culture while living abroad?

Best regards.

Ed.

Freedom of religion ends when it starts directly impacting the lives of others. I've got no problem with anyone airing their views peacefully, regardless of how I feel about said views, and that extends to these guys patrolling the streets. But the moment they start to directly interfere with other people, then they can go fuck themselves.

The guy with the idiotic opinions of the law of the land is, predictably, an idiot, and the moderate Muslims they interviewed were useless. There are better advocates for your average Joe Muslim than those two.

How should they be dealt with? If they break the law then they get punished appropriately. Expulsion wouldn't work as I'd bet these guys are British citizens, and you can't fine or lock someone up for having an opinion, unless they start breaking the law.

As long as they don't act (and it just a form of protesting) then that is fine, The moment they start to infringe on the freedoms of other people then we have a serious issue, because we not only have the legal act itself of infringing on the rights of other people, it can also be considered a criminal association as well as conspiracy to actively commit a crime (by violating the law of the land). They are not only unfit citizens when they do not act (as they openly demonstrate to against the freedoms of other people), if they act there is more then grounds for jail and for expulsion (in case of non UK citizens). But then again, until they act, no legal action can be taken.

Reason #486317.45-b to never visit london.

This isn't so much an islam thing as an Anjem Choudry thing. He's that horrid mix of pathetic theocratic nobody and :londoner:. On the venn diagram of stuff that's up infront of a firing squad when I come to power he's in most of the groups.

Ha ha ha... wow.

Why give these fuckwits conversation time? They wander around a couple of areas in London with their gonads and knuckles dragging along behind them trying to stop "vice"? That's hilarious.

malicious_bloke, they probably cover five or six roads in the 'burbs. London's a great place if you avoid the tourist trail (except the British Museum, everyone must go there fifteen times in their lives). I speak as an ex-Londoner so my authority on this matter is complete :D

Once, while at a friends house, I helped myself to another glass of wine, the act of which was caught by her 5 year old. The offspring called me naughty, I would equate their behaviour with this, except the difference being the 5 year old knew she was being funny and young. These chaps, walking around with their signs and their pointy fingers are nothing short of silly in a hat.

I'm not entirely sure what "vices" they are looking for so they can utter a low but audible "booooo", but I'm guessing they are of a wacky and unimportant nature.

As Austra says, if they do start forcefully imposing their wacky beliefs on people, then it becomes a police matter, until then, I say just laugh at them, they're making tits of themselves.

I think it's important to draw a distinction between core values and cultural furnishings. If someone from Bangladesh wants to come to England and speak Bengali, wear a sari and eat paratha bread, then that is, of course, completely acceptable, and should be allowed anywhere on the planet. If they wish to murder their daughter, subjugate women or attack homosexuals, then that is completely unacceptable, not only here, but it should be seen as wrong internationally.
