Hello League of Reason!
I've actually been signed up for a bit but for whatever reason I have only just now gotten around to making a proper introduction. :3
Anyhow! I've been lurking a bit and I am very interested in the topics and discussions taking place. I hope that I can be as helpful in some of these discussions and participate meaningfully
As for my meager background, I have a bachelor's in both Comparative Religious Studies (with a substantial anthropology angle) and Classical and Medieval Studies (a history degree for the western hemisphere from Alexander to about Charle'magne'). I took the CR degree as I was a youth with an expanding mind and wanted to find the answers to life and all that jazz. I finally came to a conclusion that no religion would ever sit well with me as I feel very at home with reason and rationale. I guess I was drawn to that particular degree due to my particular upbringing. Having decided I wanted to actually be a helpful member of society I am now a social worker working on my MSW.
As one could imagine I will most likely be posting in the Religion and Irreligion section but I am at best an agnostic in one sense and a complete atheist in another (the whole undergrad seems a waste at times T_T). The closest 'religions' I come to being on agreeable terms with is Zen and/or Contemplative Daoism (none of the frilly folk religion thank you very much). I think an aware and expanding mind is fruitful but only with healthy skepticism.
The ethical stance I take in my social working on religion is that of keep it to yourself. The kids can learn it but only at a "this is where our people come from" perspective. I'm just not keen on the "now johnny, if you don't love Jesus you will BURN."
Anywho, hiya all and here I iz!
