Saint Pope John Paul II

arg-fallbackName="Pennies for Thoughts"/>
If they can make a saint out of Pope Ratz's Polish predecessor who was just as homophobic, misogynistic, and pederast-friendly, then there's hope for all sinners. If that guy can make sainthood, how difficult can it be?
On Friday the Vatican said in a statement that medical experts, after carefully examining the case involving Normand [ who prayed to JP2 to cure her Parkinson's] had submitted their findings to the Congregation for the Causes of Saints in October 2010. The Congregation subsequently concluded that the nun's healing was 'scientifically inexplicable.'

Can I be a saint now?
I'm going to pray to you right now that my gene insert is in the correct orientation in my plasmid. I will let you know the result tomorrow.

Hold on, he's not a Saint yet. He'll be beatified, which will make him "blessed". To become a Saint, you need two miracles, not one. They're not making it easy, you know

Yeah, he's my favourite Pope though. Had he not been a religious fanatic I reckon he would have been a pretty cool bloke.

Remember that you need to be dead for the second one. :p

There are no living Saints. :D

Hey guys -
let's make a pact that if one of our fellow LoR free-thinkers passes away, that we (as a whole) turn Catholic for 2 weeks and jury-rig 3 "Miracles" by sheer coincidence.

The first glorified Atheist Saint.

Two weeks is too much. I think I can honestly pretend to be a catholic only once a year. ^^

I'll do it.

One of my miracles can be that all of the inaccuracies in a history textbook were spontaneously whited-out. Or that a movie made about a historical figure was actually factually accurate to the best of anyone's knowledge... hmm, might have to wait a bit for that one though.

Count me in on the LoR Make-a-Saint pool. My last request is that I be beatified as Saint Pennies from Heaven.

Yet as much as I'd like to be the patron saint of atheism and loose change, and I don't want to dampen enthusiasm unduly, but if LoR members, even newly-minted Catholic ones, were to knock on the Vatican's door asking that a saint be promoted from their ranks; well, the Admissions Committee is probably going to give the "miracles" bar a hefty raise for that.

There is, however, a candidate with a saintly resume (which lacks only beatification), he's got centuries on FSM, and he's not alive. He's also got legions of followers to help with His application. As it says on His homepage, His is the world's oldest religion, the world's largest church, and you may already be a member.

Reminds me of when I was at that guy's grave when I visited the Vatican.
Some somewhat sickly-looking bald woman was standing by it, praying while crying silently.
Kind of touching sight actually. You wind up wondering what her story was.

Who knows? She could be one of the "healed" people.
