Howdy! I'm sure there are some on here that will recognize me, as soon as they see my leafy form. :lol:

I am US Navy retired. I used to work on Navy aircraft. Presently I am a violinist in a local symphony orchestra.

I tend to stay put and blend into the board I am on, even though philosophically I may differ from the majority.

It depends on how the board handles dissenting viewpoints. I may not post them at all. For now I will browse the board and get to know how it works. I don't come to forums to troll them. I come to contribute in some way.

Maybe that contribution will be nothing more than good clean jokes.

Well, seriously... The board doesn't really "handle" dissenting viewpoints. The users here will handle the presentation of such viewpoints in... various ways.
The mods, while participating themselves in the debates, will only enforce the rules, not ban for "dissenting" viewpoints.

I say "dissenting" because the boards really doesn't have a view as such, other than... liking reason, I guess. So if you come here saying that you really, really, really dislike reason, we... I don't know. We've never had that.

But well, as you can perhaps see with how YesYouNeedJesus has fared, it hasn't really been a striking success.

Personally, I could have done without the hostility he's experienced, but I can't really issue and orders to our users unless they start breaking rules.

I was raised to be a free thinker. I have no problems with reason. But I have over the years come to believe in a Creator. I don't butt heads and be rude. Intelligence and reason have little to do with belief or lack thereof.

Anyways, is there any special significance behind the weird choices for gender? I picked Tree because I like trees and my avatar all over the web is some variation of the one I have now.

I'd like to say that we aren't rude on this forum, but... I'd be lying.

I also agree with you that intelligence and reason have little to do with belief or lack thereof.

As for the weird genders on the site, it started as an in-joke. I think someone wanted to be "cake", and it just took off from there. :)

Why did those options get removed?

BTW I did come from a site where there is a lot of hostility too. But the site in opposite of this one as what viewpoints predominate. I've read through the rules on this site.

They weren't removed, our prehistoric compatriot is lamenting the lack of an option. Besides, it's a bit insensitive of him to go on about it seeing as they were all time-locked, only remembered in passing whispers.
