Russian Creationism....

http://www.newscientist.com/blogs/shortsharpscience/2010/06/godless-communists-embrace-cre.html

It's spread to the UK > Northern Ireland's wanting a piece, now Russia... How are these guys possibly growing in support/numbers >.< I'm so confused.

I'm reminded of Einstein

Only two things are infinite, the Universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

People are crap at critical thinking, and even worse at recognising that trait in themselves. The gullible will always be easily deluded.

Have they linked it with Lysenko yet? That be quite a irony. Specially if then it jumps to the US.

How much influence have Archbishops in the russian polices? Hope that none...

In Russia church is under direct control of the government, their patriarch is former KGB member. they have their share of extremist groupings which are, as far as I know, pretty useful tool for their government.

not that surprising... but it would be funnier if it went like

In Russia, Universe created the god..

Well, the first sentence is a pretty good Smirnoffism.

I mean, "in soviet russia, government controls church" right?

Creationism is invariably the tool of power-hungry theocrats. In the U.S., it's being used by right-wing evangelicals in order to indoctrinate children in schools, and entrench their religion with the power of the state. It should be no surprise that Putin's allies in the Orthodox Church are using the same tactics to reconsolidate their power over Russian public life.

I just thought of the best thing while reading that:

If creationism has to be taught in school alongside evolution, then evolution has to be preached alongside creation in churches. Keep it fair.

That's a strong talking point that my fav Neil Degrasse Tyson brings up in the Creationism "debates"... "well it's not like scientists are picketing outside churches and kicking down sunday school saying 'hey you have to teach evolution'"

I second the motion. All in favor?

Hell no, they bastardise their own religion in churches (think of the different denominations) and religidiots talking science invariably make a balls up of it.

I'm much more inclined to insist that islam is taught in churches along with christianity.

And hilarity ensues.
