I don't often play games cause I don't often find games that appeal to me. I enjoy the kind of strategy games where you have to build stuff... Things like Civilization, and Sim City...

I also enjoy any game that has an awesome story line, stuff like Final Fantasy 7 and Metal Gear Solid...

I know my criteria is pretty vague, but would be interested to know what you would recommend for me. Oh by the way I'm looking for games on my PC...

Cheers m'dears

Mass effect and bioshock have awesome storyline, these two are my top favorite games. So does "The Witcher", which is an RPG. First part of warhammer:dawn of war (+ expansions: dark crusade and soulstorm) is awesome strategy game with great story, not as complex as civilization though.

Star Ruler.
It's only just come out and is very good. Basically it's a real-time strategy where you build an empire across a galaxy of unlimited size. There is no limit to how big your fleets can be (and I mean that when I say it) and the size of the galaxy is limited only by your PC's capabilites-you can have billions of stars if you really want (but be prepared for a crash if you go over about 100,000 stars).
On top of that, the technology and research aspect is very well done and original. You can modify the galaxy itself when you get to the higher tech levels, being able to destroy planets and even stars entirely, and build ringworlds around stars. You can also custom-build ships (again of unlimited size once you reach certain tech levels). To top it off, the diplomacy system is very well done-you can make just about any conceivable treaty.
The game focusses on the military aspect more than societal, but there is a very good economy system with 6 different resources (or seven, if you count manual labour as one) which works like Supreme Commander in that you can build stuff as the resources come in and so can set up build queues that repeat, churning out ship after ship for your fleet.

There is a demo on steam and at their website. Try it, it's only 100MB download I think.

Nice one Nasher, I'm going to give this a go, I've been playing Escape Velocity: Nova lately but would like something a little more immersive :)

I'd add Dragon Age to the list of games with great story. Basically you can't go wrong with Bioware if story is your thing.

The developers of that Star Ruler game have never made a game before and they seem to have a lot of time for the community side of things. Their developers talk directly to players in their forums and are releasing updates every few days, adding various features or smoothing out creases or bugs.
Certainly commendable of them. Most companies seem to flat out ignore the community aspect.

AOM.

I got tired of the campaign and skirmish pretty quickly, but the multi-player never gets boring. They keep manipulating the layout of the game by creating scenarios and custom campaigns.

Well... Civ V just came out.

I'll second Bioshock, Portal, and TF2.

I would also suggest getting an SNES emulator and playing Tales of Phantasia.

AOM 2?

Because that game is supposed to be a lot better then the first one. Multiplayer wise as well.

It's an old school game, but see if you can find a copy of Master of Magic.

Masters of Orion, too. MOO2 is better imo, though. As a MOO2 fan i didn't like MOO3 but my roommate loves MOO3.

Those are all Empire building games, like Civilization. Oh, did you play Alpha Centauri? Sequal to Civilization. It was released between Civ2 and 3, resembles 3 a lot. Great game. Basically picks up after a space race victory sends a team to colonize Alpha Centauri.
