Rabbits DO chew the cud (sort of)

One example of a biblical error we love bringing up, is that the bible falsely claims that rabbits chew the cud. But actually, this statement isn't as false as we think it is.

Rabbits, like guinea pigs, eat their own droppings. The internal stomachs of cows, rabbits etc. are so badly designed, that the food, after being eaten, is first stored all the way in the back of the animal. Cows then regurgitate it all the way back to the mouth and chew it, while rabbits take the shortcut and poop it out and then eat it. But it's biologically pretty much the same thing.

I very much doubt the biblical authors meant this, of course. They probably thought rabbits chew the cud cause they kept seeing them munching around. But they did get that one sort of right by accident. So I wouldn't put this at the forefront of a list of mistakes the bible made. There are way better ones.

Hm. Dammit. I thought this was going to be about something else I have to talk about rather often. I'll see my self out.

As a creationist, I can say that in my many years on this forum, I am sure that no one here has ever presented rabbits chewing cud as a biblical error. It is not common on this forum for people to misrepresent the Bible or to make inaccurate statements about supposed errors. If they did, I would destroy them.

AronRa uses the example often, in his videos.
https://www.skepticsannotatedbible.com/ lists it too.

Anyway, saying people using the argument are "misrepresenting" the bible is already too strong.

Well...I'm kinda pointing it out to the atheists? Cause they care about getting things right, and won't use the example anymore once they know?

I don't think the world actually works this way. I think this is just an example of the wishy-washy things people will say, en vogue with the parts of society they want to fit into.

If you were actually fighting against God with every fiber of your being, then at least He might have some respect for you.

I don't get it. What's wishy-washy? Do you want me to fight against God? Do you not like that I'm correcting mistakes on my own side?

So what? AronRa hates God and fights against Him with every fiber of his being. There is nothing new under the sun.
AronRa doesn't hate god, how can he hate something that doesn't exist. What he hates are religious people who say god did it. If I put words into your mouth @AronRa I apologize.

I find the argument "Atheists are people who hate god' very weak. It ranks right down there with 'You don't believe in god so you can sin' and other nonsensical BS.

Greetings,

Mithcoriel, I disagree with your point regarding the bible's claim not being false.

Rabbits - and hares - are not ruminants, therefore, they don't "chew the cud".

The bible was merely clarifying for the Jews that rabbits were "unclean" - although they "chewed the cud", they weren't cloven-hooved, thus they were not kosher.

Kindest regards,

James

I could be very wrong, I of course don't know him personally. I am just speaking from my own personal view of him. But that's all I can do.
