Prostitution in the future via the internet?

A friend of mine brought up an interesting topic on FB earlier today. He said that with every great leap in technology, people find a way to sex it up. We got to joking about cybering, and how it's been replaced with webcams and I got to thinking, when we have the technology to build a 3D virtual world and actually feel it with whatever technology allows us to experience it, would the online equivalent of webcam girls be considered prostitutes and would it be legal?

Prostitution is legal here, so I guess so. :p In America? Who knows? They tend to criminalise everything.

I'm going to say no, but then I'm also going to point to my signature as I feel it may be appropriate for this conversation.

It still wouldn't be like the real thing. Even if there will be genuinely satisfying virtual prostitution, there will be a demand for real prostitutes.

My 2 cents.

all the fun with none of the std/pregnancy risks! whats the downside?

also i don't see why prostitution should be illegal anyways... and i think within the next 100 years or so it will become more accepted. we'll see...
