I tried this in another thread but it went a little off track.
IMO, you can tell a lot about a politician by their predictions for the end of civilization. If, for example, a politician believes that humans are causing their own decline, they would be much more likely to vote for legislation that aims to prevent that future (global warming, outbreaks, toxic environments, etc). On the other hand, if a politician thinks the world is going to end after Jesus descends from the sky on a white horse sometime in the near future, they probably don't have much concern for environmental impact...
I guess the question becomes, do you think that a politician's doomsday prediction would be a useful indicator of their political effectiveness?
