Prayer doesn't work

Prayer doesnt work because if it did, they would outlaw it at sporting events just like they outlaw steroids because it gives participants an unfair advantage. It would make sense to outlaw something like that because it's cheating. Now why don't they outlaw praying at sporting events? What could be more unfair than pumping yourself with chemicals to make you physically more able? How about praying with the intent to get the supreme creator of the universe to benefit YOU instead of your opponent? That seems like it is infininetly more of a cheating move, don't you think? Which is why they should ban praying at sporting events to mantain a fair game, right? It WOULD be if prayer actually worked. But no, it doesn't. That's why it's allowed all the time because prayer doesn't make an ounce of difference with the innevitable outcome of any situation.

Think about that

The devils advocate in me says:

God doesn't always pay attention (then the other half of my brain goes 'but he's omnipotent/impotent)
God does not meddle in petty affairs
In true Christian sports both sides can pray.
and thats all thats cracking out

On the other hand, it may serve a psychological effect similar to songs of war, if it is obvious someone might try harder. Placebo effect?

I seem to remember hearing something about prayer helping athletes to focus their minds on the game which actually does have a positive benefit. The secular alternative is called visualization...

If praying is a concentration of willpower to achieve some kind of effect - then it would work.

Placebo effect.

xD

Intent (What prayer is based on) is based on your own perception, and the perception of everyone else taking part; Although positive intent is far more coherent then negative, you're still fighting against the conscious and unconscious minds of all other observers, including yourself; Public speaking is feared enough already, but public manifestation is a far step beyond that. I've heard that Yeshua couldn't do his miracles in his home town, because everyone there knew him as the child and not what he became after his 40 days with himself... Think about that ;)
