It's a bit reminiscent of when business administration students thought not not wearing pink shirts was manly. Oh wait, they still do.
Oh and yea, it's a mildly amusing school presentation. Also, it's "ponies", not "pony's".

The style and tone is reminiscent of the 90s cartoons that the adult audience saw when growing up, creating a bit of nostalgia factor. The quality of the animation and storytelling is superior to all other animated shows currently on the air. The "this is the GREATEST THING EVER" factor is simply the typical Formation-Reaction response you expect to see in people who like something that goes against the predominant cultural schema; like how religious kooks claim to be persecuted by an immoral society when people make fun of them.
