Hello everyone :)

I've noticed that most of the times, when creationists get popular here on the LoR, they often use the argument that this is an atheist forum, with atheist mods, atheist rules and that the moderators bend the rules towards... well.. atheists.

So I'd like to start a poll here, where everyone goes ahead and states their religious views, and then we can reference the thread every time someone calls a strawman like that.
I'm sure this has been done before, but I'd like to make a new, updated one.

If everyone's okay with that, would a mod please turn this into a poll thread? I can't seem to find the option to make polls.

The poll would include the following views (the definition of each term shall be that of Wikipedia):

The point of this is to have statistical data on LoR members... obviously.

Cheers.

Re: LoR Demographics - Religion

Your religion (or lack of) doesn't matter if your reasoning is sound, ergo no need to care if you believe in an afterlife (under most circumstances). I realise many of our religious members come to discuss/convince/bewail the atheism vs. theism issue and get caught up in those discussions without realising the point made in my first sentence, but well, that's their fault for not reading the about page.

I don't feel it's necessary (this isn't an atheist forum, it's a discussion forum); we can (and should) point to the about page, and specifically: the only collective belief of its team is that if constructive debate is allowed to progress, better ideas will ultimately supplant worse ideas.

To me, this is what this site is all about (that and badgers), and I can't see that gathering some data on the religions of members who happen to stop in while this thread is at the top of the pile would really add anything to anything.

That's my view :)

Oh, and I believe polls are only allowed in certain sub-forums.

Re: LoR Demographics - Religion

when you create a new topic, look below the "preview" "submit" "save" and "cancel" buttons and should see a "poll creation" button staring at you, next to the "options" button (where you can disable BBcode etc).

it seems possible for me to create polls without going to said "certain sub-forums".

Yea i also think an "agnostic" option would have been a nice addition.

That's an atheist then, Agnostic isn't related to the same question.

I tried to make it as succinct as possible.

So we could spend next 3 weeks discussing definitions :)

Whether I'm a strong atheist or agnostic atheist depends on the definition of god(s). I do also hold a general anti-theistic position as well. I'm not opposed to the idea that there could ever be a justified theistic belief, but I think pretty much all the ones invented so far have had enough time clouding real answers to real problems.

So, you're three things at the same time.

I picked "strong" but I'd prefer it be changed to "correct" since I'm right and the rest of you are goofy. :)

That reminds me of:
Mickey Mouse at a trial
Judge: So Mr. Mouse, you left your wife (Minnie Mouse) because you claim that she's crazy?
Mickey: No, your honour, I said that she was fucking Goofy.

**Disclaimer**
Keep in mind all, that I'm a middle aged hippy type from western Canada. So obviously crazy babbling will ensue.

So all this time I just figured I was an atheist.

Apparently not quite,.

I'd never heard of a couple of the terms before and once I looked them up one seemed a bit closer to my philosophy, although not exactly.
I still don't think of "the universe" as an entity I can interact with or pretend to anyhow.
.
But for poll purposes I did chose Pantheist, as it seemed closer than just plain atheist.

I've always just thought of myself a carbonist

Basically I believe that me, my planet, the plants and animals I grow (and kill) are all made out of the same thing ergo, it's my responsibility to treat them nicely.
I am them and they are me, in essence.
Not sure if this would be considered my religion or lack thereof, of if it's just how I live my life.

wow even as I'm typing this I sound like a nut job.... meh... so be it.

Dear people;

You may notice that the votes have been reset. My bad. In editing the poll (to include agnosticism) I done goofed.

Cosmic, I hope you don't mind. Just seemed more succinct is all.

ok cool, can I change my vote?
Oh, regular atheist is missing??
ut oh, what's the difference between strong atheist and just atheist?

arg-fallbackName="Laurens"/>
I chose agnostic atheism. I don't think it's a choice that needs any defence from me :p
