So, yeah.

If you have an HTC phone, I'm sorry to have to tell you that you have a rootkit on your phone.
Even if you took the bitch out of the box and stuck it on Airplane mode it's entire time.

Yes, boys and girls, a company called Carrier IQ has a keylogging software sold on most HTC phones. This software logs not only each and every key you touch, but each and every message you send, receive, and even the browser history of SSL-secured web browsing.

In an article on WiRED that broke about an hour ago it was revealed that several million people are currently being actively spied on.
Every single action on their phones being gathered and sent to a database with a Rootkit that was sold with the phone.

That must be a real concern for people who have exciting double lives and what-not.

Yeah. It's cool, that a private corporation has every single number or letter you've mashed in your phone and all data sent along it's lines without proper ToS asking you if it can happen.

I didn't say it was "cool"... and someone needs to sue somebody else, and maybe folks need to go to jail.

I'm just saying that I'm too dull to need to worry too much.

Sorry, I'm tired and in poor humor at the moment. Not the best of days, I'm afraid.

Well thats just funny, and probably the end of HTC as a legit force if it all turns out to be true.

I don't know... their hardware is really good, and they have one of the better Android interfaces.

Depends how widespread this news gets. People will flee if the reporting goes viral.

I'm sure I heard about this around a week or two ago. Probably at ars technica.

What will the US legal system do about this illegal activity?

People are going to want to hack Carrier IQ for this data, which doesn't seem too hard.

Nobody "Hacked" Carrier IQ. He just found out that it was sending out a packet each and every time a button pressed.

I know, I said people will want to steal the data they have collected.
