Overrated Games

I loved the different environments in Oblivion and fast travelling between them (and I understand some people hated fast travel, but again YMMV); it made the world feel huge. There were also tons of people everywhere constantly giving me quests. In Fallout everything is gray, samey, empty, short on ammo, and full of supermutants.

I think I got really sick of it at a point outside the Museum of Science with like eight supermutants. I spent a half hour trying to kill them before reading a guide saying I was supposed to just run past them. I think that's bad design. I spent another half hour and finally managed to beat them using all my explosives and most of my mini-nukes. There was no payoff. The loot sucked and there was barely any XP. Oh yeah, XP was my least favorite part. I thought I was very clever when I realized I could kill the supermutants by blowing up cars. Then I realized that using the environment to my advantage gave me no XP. Awesome.

Ooh, nearly forgot. Far Cry. I didn't find it that fun. It was a nice idea to have as an open setting but at the end of the day it's just an okay-ish FPS.
Also, the guy you play as is a douche :p

Never played the first one, but I loved Far Cry 2. From what I hear it's vastly different.

I used to be like that, then it suddenly clicked and I become on of those people who was killing you. :p

With CS, the gameplay is generally a lot faster paced that with other FPS - it's a game where you really need to be on the ball and you really need to have a good aim.

Hmm, I found Car Fry very entertaining, actually.

The sneaking around was different and challenging, and the open feel of the game nice, yet it still managed to drive you and the story forward.

Great game, in my opinion. :)

thats interesting......i liked the sims 1 because if you had the creator than you could paste face photos over the characters to create more realistic looking sims. also building houses was fun and the game had very relaxing music.

i have also enjoyed gta san andeas and saints row 2. i would like to get the new red dead redemption it seems like it would be an awesome game.

It's funny because for the same reasons you just gave is what makes me love Fallout 3. It totally nails the ambience and environment you would expect in a post apocalyptic aftermath while simultaneously introducing a 50s throwback nostalgia to everything in the game. Even though you might not get XP using the environment to your advantage, luckily Fallout 3 doesn't put that much emphasis on destroying everything to get all your XP. Instead, you can focus on quests, disarming traps, hacking computers, etc.

I also like the fact that I have options to bypass threats, hack into security and turn the turrets on the enemy, or maybe sneak up on someone and plant some live grenades in their pocket :D

Oblivion on the other hand had a very shallow combat and leveling system, IMO. I hated it if you were to put Acrobatics or something as your primary skill, you would level up way too fast and you wouldn't be able to max any of your attributes. Compound that with the auto scaling of creatures to ALWAYS match or beat your level even if you have crap for weapons. It was just way too much micromanagement necessary to make it enjoyable.

So, I guess it just depends on what you were expecting from those respective games. I still think Oblivion and Fallout were at least 9/10 games.
