Dear Dr. Phil, as you probably already know, I recently launched a discussion challenge addressed to you.
For some time, you have been systematically promoting the idea that there has been a historical conflict between science and the Christian religion. You have claimed that science and religion are in a permanent state of conflict, and that one must die for the other to live.
You have used your entire scientific authority in promoting some concepts such as "Dark Ages", or ideas such as:

- [churches] "burned the combined knowledge, gained by thousands, collected in libraries",
- [religion] "decreed that learning is evil"
- "Western nations were not born of Christian values",
- without Christianity, "Christopher Columbus would have landed on the moon.", or in short, ~The Conflict Thesis", .

Today's atheist slogan, "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence" was popularized by Carl Sagan (1934 - 1996), a professor of astronomy at Cornell University, in New York, who hosted the TV series called "Cosmos",.
The slogan origins in a David Hume (1711 - 1776) maxim on the falsehood of miracles; however, the professor Carl Sagan, highly admired and respected by atheists, spread much misinformation via his TV series "Cosmos" about the relationship between science and religion.
Among the biggest blunders committed by him, are those related to "the burning of the library of Alexandria" and on the "killing of Hypatia as a martyr of science". Unfortunately, the Cornell professor Carl Sagan, never applied his own slogan on his extraordinary claims, about the conflict between science and religion.
After all, this is what I want from you, Dr. Phil,. : to present some evidence for your extraordinary claims. I do not consider that I ask for much, considering that you have asked exactly the same thing from the Christians on Youtube who claim that the Bible is full of scientific evidence, or from the creationists, who believe in a global flood or that the world is 6000-8000 years old.
In the past I have launched two other challenges for you, in which I asked you to clarify your position on the impact of Christianity on the development of the western civilization. You have consistently refused to do that, and you have continued to promote the "Conflict Thesis", whit every opportunity that you have. Furthermore, you seem to operate by the dictum, that sometimes it is better to promote a lie, if that lie will negatively impact your opponent. Still, Dr. Phil, you have far exceeded the phase of "a lie". However, I'm ready to give you the benefit of doubt, and to accept that you really believe what you preach.

Today, when your data has just become public, I can address you personally:
I understand that being a collaborator, perhaps even a graduate of Cornell University,, did indeed influence your perception on the normal relationship between science and religion. After all, one of the founders of the Cornell University is at the same time one of the founders of the "Conflict Thesis". And yes, I am referring to Andrew Dickson White,. Several other persons over the years that had some connection whit the Cornell University have publicly supported the "Conflict Thesis", of which I already mentioned Carl Sagan.
Let's not forget that this university offers an atheist association for its students, the "Atheist and Agnostic Society of Cornell" whose mission is to:
"organize, unite, educate and serve people that promote atheist and agnostic ideas, the ideals of scientific rationality, secularism, and human-based ethics."
So, I have enough reasons to believe that you, Dr. Phil, did go with the flow, without ever doubting what you were taught. But Dr. Phil, let me read from the Cornell University popular post "Why I'm an Atheist":
"We might not always come to the correct conclusions, and therefore we must always be willing to revise them in light of new evidence."
So, Dr. Phil do you also practice what you preach? Do you believe in the concept mentioned above ?
Are you ready to show it?
Do you believe that "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence" ?
Are you able to bring evidence for a thesis that you have publicly supported on the internet since 2006?
Let me remind you that, so far, all people who were challenged by you have answered. Let me remind you also that so far you have chosen for your discussions only the weakest opponents : TruthfulChristian, VenomFangX, and this guy DLandonCole that nobody had heard of, and in real life, Ray Comfort and Westboro Baptist Church, while, to my knowledge, none of those people have a higher education.
Are you not interested to find out how you will handle a real discussion?

Do you just conform with accepting everything based on blind faith?
I have seen your movies for instance, where you sustain a classical version of the "Conflict Thesis", which in reality, originated in the time of Voltaire, namely that, "Greek science" was brought in Europe from "Islam"...and after that it boomed the Enlightenment.
Or in one of your BlogTv show, one of your friends presented the story, with the opposition of Christianity to anatomical studies; this story is pretty old too, but was presented by Andrew Dickson White in the "History of the Warfare of Science with Theology in Christendom", which gave in atheism a beautiful legend, namely that "while in Christianity autopsies were prohibited, in Islam they were widely practiced".
When you meet things, such as the ones above, do you ever question them? Should I remind you of the video with the "girl that prayed for the earthquake"?
Do you take all that is negative about religion to be automatically true, and all that is good about religion as being a lie which must somehow be exposed ? :geek:

I throw you the glove Cornell Dr. Phil, and wait to see your "academic integrity". :!:

I really would not mind seeing another debate on this forum between VyckRo and thunderf00t. I know thunderf00t has an account on this forum. Perhaps if this is brought to his attention thunderf00t will take VyckRo up on his offer and they can debate on this forum.

I'd rather, prefer a tàªte à  tàªte, but... I am open to suggestions ... whatever blows Thunderf00t skirt up!

Anyway getting back to buisness; Has Thunderf00t ever posted anything anywhere here? Because i do not think he has

arg-fallbackName="Prolescum"/>
No he's never posted here. Probably never will.
Vyckro's obsession with him should not be encouraged in my view.

They aren't blunders just because you state they are. Back up your assertion.

Also, I have as much interest in tf00t debating Vyckro as I do having holes drilled in my teeth. Mostly down to my dislike of tf00t but then Vyck has never been Captain Honest.

This isn't an atheist forum.

Yeah, seconded. I can watch The Muppets on DVD for that level of discourse.

It's already petty

I'm going to have to break this myth to everyone. Thunderf00t isn't and never was related to the League Of Reason, he never set a foot here ever!
His supoused account on this forum was registred by a thirdparty, not Thunderf00t himself. He did participated on BlogTv sessions miss named the "LeagueOfReason Show" that in practice never had anything to do with this forum, the only panelist from the "League Of Reason Show" who actually was related to the LeagueOfReason was AndromedasWake and no one else.
So take your beef with thunderf00t directly to him, posting it here will only doom it to the post graveyard.

Seconded. I think that the best way to be contacted by thunderf00t is by posting a reply video to one of his videos.

I don't think he would debate somebody who seems interested only in insulting him though; it's his position you should be attacking, not his university ties or his real name, or his 'skirts' were he to have any skirts.

This here shows that Vyck is completely incapable of an honest conversation, let alone a debate.
How many times does it need to be said? This forum is an exchange for intellectual pursuits and reasonable discussion, consisting of many people regardless of religious background and open for anyone to say anything on those grounds. You have several Christians, Pagans, and other religious people that regularly contribute here.

Vyck has been told this in each and every thread he has ever posted in here.

As a side I would like to note that if I had a choice between watching thunderf00t and VyckRo in a debate, or getting my wisdom teeth removed, I would choose the latter - because at least that's free painkillers for 4 days and no watch for 6 of them as a relief for the annoyance of blood gushing from my mouth and constant pain.

yes of course . . .
Probably it was something in the title "Religion & Irreligion" that has created the confusion.
Please redirect me to the topic ""Atheism & Irreligion" to talk about Thunderf00t

Usually, the burden of proof is on the claimant shoulders!
Otherwise I would be able to claim anything, and when someone tells me that it is impossible, I would say "prove me wrong"
If I am not wrong this, it was the alleged atheist position, correct?

Anyway, for some time, I write a book, on atheist mythology: this week I want to write about the myths of "Galileo savagely tortured by the Inquisition" and on the " Crazy Pope that has excommunicate a Comet"

My nr2 favorite myth is on the "Christopher Columbus who wanted to prove that the earth is round, and has met fierce opposition from the clergy"

What I love most about atheism, it is the idea of "martyrs".

The hardest part of this book, is to trace the origins of the myth and its development, the myth of the "Library of Alexandria" has a spectacular evolution, as more time has passed the "Library " has come to include more buildings, more hundreds of thousands of books and more "scientists" were that work there.

All knowledge that I gathered for this book, make me an ideal candidate, for this debate.

Considering what type of debate has had TF so far .
namely with:
- from Youtube
TruthfulChristian, VenomFangX, DLandonCole

and from the real life
Ray Comfort and Westboro Baptist Church.

So ... any attack addressed to me, just make me a better candidate for the debate.

PS
Anyone who wants to show little, intellectual honesty, should recognize that the subject of this debate it very interesting.

Can you define atheist myth as opposed to general ignorance?

he_who_is_nobody said:

Obvious, an Atheist myths is a myth generally held by atheists, and that originated from a priori idea designed to discredit religion.
For example I do not think you will find a Buddhist, Jew or a Muslim to hold the view that the entire story presented in the New Testament it is just a mith, but with difficulty, you will find an atheist to accept existence of Jesus and the apostles as historical characters
Look here for example, a discussion between an agnostic researcher (Bart Ehrman), which is very critical related to the bible, and an atheist that attempts to push the idea that "Jesus is just a mith" ... I mean, come on, it must be!!!

You never will meet a serious historian to have such discussions!
You never will meet a disinterested person to claim again and again, that Christianity has impeded the development of science
- always have to be an atheist

at the same time as we have
German myths
or
Greek myths
Greek myths
