Open letter to House Republicans

Dear House Republicans,

I regret to inform you that our household will be unable to pay anymore in taxes this year.

This is because we've hit our arbitrarily set number that we call our "debt ceiling". This completely made up number sets the maximum amount of cash that we allow ourselves to pay out.

We're trying to raise this self-imposed limit but we can't come to any consensus. Consequently, we're informing you, as well as our other creditors, that we'll be deliberately defaulting on all our debts.

This may strike some as crazy but certain members of our household don't think there should be any problems with this. Any attempt to discuss the legal problems with this move, the possibility of eviction, liens against our home and shut off of services are dismissed as "scare tactics". I guess we'll find out.

We're sure you'll understand. We'll keep you posted on whether or not we can ever bring ourselves to increase our debt ceiling.

Not sincerely (because this letter is satire),

DeistPaladin

I think it's my duty not just to my country but to the entire world to stay and do what I can to keep the Tea Fascists from taking over. After all, we're talking about the world's largest nuclear arsenal. No sane person wants Michelle Bachmann to be in control of it. *shudder*

I studied the "12 dark years of German history" in my German IV class. I'm seeing some disturbing parallels, from the propaganda to the thuggery. The biggest difference seems to be that we've replaced brown shirts and jack boots with tea bags, tricorner hats and poor grammar and spelling on the protest signs.

I currently don't have the money to move elsewhere. I wish there was an "Adopt a US citizen" program in other 1st world countries. I'd gladly post myself up. You can bet your ass that as soon I do have the financial means, I'm getting the fuck outta this prematurely aborted Rome...or at least moving to a more "liberal" region within it.

I've read this story in the history books before. It didn't end well.

I should have moved to Canada three years ago when I had the chance... well hindsight is 20/20.

The fact that some in Washington would risk another recession or financial shock merely to score political points for the next election cycle is a travesty and something that I hope does not fall on deaf ears. Unfortunately, it seems that exceedingly few people care about the constant political bickering and the incompetence that many of our elected officials display on a regular basis. Until congress is held fully accountable by their constituents we will see no end to these fights.
