I only see adverts at work, so they don't tend to impinge on my viewing. However, people should be aware that there is no direct human decision to place any particular ad with any video or page - the decision is dealt with automatically by the ad serving software, which just tries to match things via keywords. For instance, the Atheist's Riddle gets plonked next to loads of atheist videos on YT simply because of the "atheist" keyword, and I suspect the particular ad at the start of this thread had "Carl Sagan" in its keywords simply because of the image. It's the same reason why you'll often see ads for scientology.org on ad-supported sites which are eing bitterly critical about the Co$. I don't let it bother me, I see these ads as a way to support websites via the time of people too dull to use adblockers (or, where not technically possible, the built in adblocker that is simply ignoring all ads).
