If it weren't for the cold, I'd move to Norway right now

Also the language might be a bit of a problem :?

Norway also has the lowest murder rate in the world

If only they would stop hunting whales. When it stops doing that it will be a Utopia.

I think if we had a debate about the best run nation on earth it would be a strong contender, watch this video and fall in love.

Oh, I've got to object to that! Faen is really feminine in my opinion... perkele, on the other hand is damn manly!

Then again, vittu is an even better word.

Why should we stop hunting whales?
The whales hunted by Norwegean whalers are not an endangered species of whale.
And they taste good too!

All countries in scandinavia are pretty high ranking in regards to welfare and wealth etc. On the other hand, swedish and norwegian are the only two even remotely comprehensible of the scandinavian languages ^^,

The happy countries index looks incredibly flawed to me... they add as the strongest weighting 'ecological footprint' and they add a special fourth category for the U.S., which they don't do in any of the other categories like life satisfaction or life expectancy (surely or other african countries should be singled out in terms of those qualities). So the U.S. is in the highest category in terms of life expectacy and life satisfaction, but because they are in this terrible extra category for something that isn't Directly related to happiness really, they are in the overall WORST category. It is absolutely silly imo.

Not only is it not at all obvious that ecological footprint has anything to do with happiness, it only is counting output and doesn't consider that many positive ecological things also come from the U.S. in terms of new technologies and doing the most research in terms of how to fix ecological problems... When you get right down to it, sure the U.S. CONSUMES more, but most of our Production is first rate in terms of ecological impact.

We could make another happiness scale index and remove the ecological footprint category and add another category: How much stuff you have. Except how much stuff you have may be directly related to your happiness, at least to a small extent it is. At which point the U.S. would probably the happiest country in the world...

Not to say the little graphics aren't interesting but its not really saying much in my opinion, I've been to 4 of the 'top 10' countries and in most of them people did not seem very happy at all and many were terribly impoverished. The HEAVILY weighted ecological footprint is really all they are taking into account - it is not at all about 'happiness'.

What's the recidivism rate in Norway?

I dont know if there is any current statistics, but it has risen from about 23% in 1957 to about 44% in 1989.
It is probably even higher now. This is probably due to organized crime, wich is a relativly new phenomen in Norway.
