So the final parts for my new rig should be arriving today. Tomorrow I will be building it.

Specs:

Radeon HD 7970 3GB Video Card
AMD FX-8120 8-core CPU
16gb DDR3 1866 RAM
ASUS M5A97 970 AM3+ Mobo
60gb OCZ SSD (for OS Partition)
along with lots of pretty accessories like a Zallman 2-ball fan/heatsink for the processor, thermometer, etc.

Anyway: I'm trying to decide what game I should pop its cherry with.

Here's my steam library, most of the games I own. I also have Far Cry 2.

Buy skyrim; turn to max settings.

Own Skyrim. Can't enjoy it, it doesn't support Surround Gaming without having to hack it.

Did Portal 2, was beautiful.

says native support on http://widescreengamingforum.com/dr/elder-scrolls-v-skyrim/en

Even if you need to do the hacks on the page they don't seem too difficult.

it claims native support. In practice your options are 1 monitor or 9. Even if you specify in the prefs file a resolution it will triple the height when it renders.

It thinks your display is this:

[ ][ ][ ] (monitors 1-3)
[ ][ ][ ] (monitors 4-6)
[ ][ ][ ] (monitors 7-9)

and you only get monitors 4-6

It sucks

I can take screenshots if you think I'm making this up. On my previous system I had to force it to one monitor.

I can see what you mean, however that seems to be addressed by the link I sent you.

Are you against running patches like this for some reason or another? It's been my experience that most people willing to build their own rig love tinkering like this.

Oh I love tinkering. I did it once to make the game playable previously. Just don't feel like doing it all over again with the new system. Most modern games have native surround gaming support - the fact that it was left out of Skyrim just means they don't want me to play it - like League of Legends.

More to the point, I hated Oblivion passionately, could barely stand to play Fallout 3, and having given Skyrim a week of play, it's barely an improvement over either of those - meaning my desire to play it is only slightly greater than my desire to staple my eyelids to a yak and smack it.

Not passionately, but I too did not care for it.

Really? Why?
DepricatedZero said:
I'll play it some day because it's pretty. Incidentally... I like Morrowind vastly more than Oblivion. Can't decide if it's because I played Morrowind while young, or if it's the more adventurous feel of wonderment that Morrowind has.

The only games I've enjoyed that use Gamebryo are Civilization 4 and Rift. Divinity 2 was alright, too. Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3 - felt like single player MMOs. Fallout 3 less so.

Oblivion I thought was just a crap game. I've posted several rants on that, and while there may be mods that make it good, any game should stand on its own merit. While I absolutely love modding games, the mod shouldn't be necessary to make it playable.

Fallout 3 ran screaming full tilt away from the spirit and feel of the series. It either beat you over the head with the joke or just failed to make it where it could have brilliantly. The humor was simply gone. Package that with it being Oblivion with guns, and you've got a pretty shit game.

Skyrim is still just more of the same. It was fun at first, actually, but it got redundant quick. It does successfully address a number of problems I had with Oblivion/FO3, but it still leaves me wanting. Granted, it stands on its own in that regard, so I'm willing to give some mods a try at some point.

How about Battlefield 3? Didn't see it on the list.
Purely in terms of graphics it would be
BF3
Metro
Crysis 2 (especially with DX11 patch and high-res textures)

The Witcher 2 and Mass Effect 2+3 look pretty good too and are actually pretty good games. They won't be too demanding for your system though.
