The declaration was criticised for its first article that states that the Arab Republic of Egypt is a democratic system based on citizenship, that Islam is the religion of the state, Arabic is its official language and the principles of sharia law derived from established Sunni canons are its main source of legislation.

And activist group from Egypt, the Maspero Youth Union, basically says that this goes against the ideals of cultural and religious diversity behind last years uprising, and that the revolution has ways to go before their goals are met. It seems, more often than not, that when these uprisings happen in that neighborhood of the world that the old is replaced with the old by a different name. I can only hope they eventually get what they want in life.
