Have you seen any otherwise enjoyable movies, ruined, because of some religious message?

I thought War of the Worlds was an okay movie, but the last line just sorta killed the experience for me.

I don't even remember the last line. The movie was awful. i mean come on, Tom Cruise was in it.

The book was better.

Also, Battlefield Earth anybody?

Also, Passion of the Christ. All that damn religious bullshit getting in the way of some good old fashioned all-american gore.

It's not really a movie, but the Sarah Connor Chronicles had some really annoying religious undertones. I mean, it had Summer Glau in it, so I still liked it, but I could have done without the damn religion.

hmm well I enjoyed kingdom heaven even more because of those stupid religious view points.

plenty of others pissed me off though.

I thought he did alright, too bad he's a nutcase. haven't read the book, maybe if I had done that first, I would think it's horrible.

the last line was about the way the aliens died of microorganism that "God in his infinite wisdom chose to put on this planet".

Yes, the religious under tones made watching the recent Battlestar Galactica series a pain.

I mean, come on! Monotheistic robots! Its a betrayal to the original Cylons.....

I Am Legend: The movie is bad enough as it is, but the religious stuff smeared on it are just atrocious.

I recently saw the new movie Knowing, I didn't much care for it, partily because of the "religious message" involved.

But I also recently saw Narnia: Prince Kaspian, while I thought the movie was quite okey, the whole "Aslan = God, look at the silly atheists not believing in him" was so apparant and overdone I just had to laugh.

I can't even remember the religious stuff in it, I was so upset by the fucked up hollywood ending (if you have read the book, you know what I am talking about).

The movie stops in a couple places to let characters get off prayers. I do agree the movie was garbage in general, oddly enough the Vincent Price movie "The Last Man on Earth" (based on the same book), while dated, is a much better film.

I can't think of any movies right now and as mentioned already, Battlestar and The Sarah Conner Chronicles contain heavy religious themes. The Chronicles especially annoyed me when they tried to teach "morals" based on the bible to the machine as I sat there screaming at the screen, "You're just teaching Skynet to kill, you fools!".

I think Battlestar Galactica was the worst offender in recent history. I didn't mind the Terminator stuff so much, on account of it being a show about destiny, saving the world, and a character with the initials J.C.... the Christian symbolism is inherent in the story. On the other hand, BSG seems to have gone with "Goddidit" because they got to the last season with a bunch of dangling plots and unexplained stuff, and they had written themselves into a corner they couldn't easily get out of. So, they chose the lazy and cheap way out.

You do realize that the Chronicles of Narnia were written by C. S. Lewis and that Aslan actually was supposed to be Jesus. Prince Caspian, along with the rest of the other books in the series ("The Magician's Nephew", "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe", "The Horse and his Boy", "Prince Caspian", "The Dawn Tredder", "The Silver Chair", and "The Last Battle") was a religious book targeted towards children as apposed to his other works such as "The Four Loves" and his space trillogy which were targeted towards an older age group. Of course the movie is going to have a religious overtone if the book it was based on was religious. If the movie didn't have the religious aspect it would have been an even worse rendition than it actually was considering it was one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

I try to avoid movies that push an overtly religious agenda, but not because they're religious. It's usually because they're so pants-on-head retarded. Last Temptation of Christ was a good movie that had religious themes, though the Catholics certainly hated it. But it was good on its own merits. The Exorcist was a great horror movie, even though it centered around the laughable notion of demonic possession. The Passion was a horrible movie, essentially a 2 hour snuff film. I've liked the Narnia series since I was a kid, and didn't start hating them when I de-converted just because they're Christian allegories. They're still good books with fun stories. I think to restrict yourself in your choice of media to things that only push your personal world view is extremely limiting and makes you rigid and dogmatic.

What made the War of the Worlds movie so bad was they took Wells' perfectly workable premise, that the martians were killed by Earth pathogens, and changed it to, the Martians were killed by Jeebus. Actually, War of the Worlds is an excellent metaphor for Creationists, as it attributes an obvious scientific conclusion to magic. I can almost see scene the next day:

President in front of a crowd

President: Yes, it's a miracle we were saved by God
Scientist from the back: Actually sir, the martians were wiped out by exposure to Earth diseases, specifically Chicken Pox
President: Shut up you atheist scientist, you're just trying to corrupt the world and make us behave like animals! It was clearly the work of a loving God who wanted to save us.
Scientists: Well we have the blood testing that backs it up, and if God truly loved us, why would he allow the Martians to wipe out our major cities and kill hundreds of millions of people to begin with?
[pause]
President: Well....what do you know? You people can't decide if Pluto is a planet or not!
[scientist facepalms]

Well, yeah, it's a movie about the Crusades. I would hope it would have some religion in there. :p I enjoyed Kingdom of Heaven. It was long, but enjoyable.

@digitalbuddha48:
The Matrix...Trilogy? :? What on Earth are you talking about? There is only one Matrix movie. They never made any sequels.

lol, I can't tell if you're serious or just commenting on the fact that Reloaded and Revolution sucked slimy green balls for the most part.

Ssssh! If I pretend they don't exist, it makes me feel better. It seems to work for the creationists. ;)
