Report of the Libyan (new) Rebel Government:

Moammar Ghadafi is Dead
ABC News said:
[. . .] "Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi, the most wanted man in the world, has been killed, the country's rebel government claimed today.

The flamboyant tyrant who terrorized his country and much of the world during his 42 years of despotic rule was cornered by insurgents in the town of Sirte, where Gadhafi had been born and a stronghold of his supporters.

The National Transition Council said that its fighters found and shot Gadhafi in Sirte, which finally fell to the rebels today after weeks of tough fighting. Rebels now control the entire country."

This was recently posted in the online New York Times: Ghadafi Reported Dead

Hehe... it's slightly amusing to me that Ghadafi was described as "flamboyant", even if it is true. :p

flam,·boy,·ant/flamˈboiÉ™nt/
Adjective:
(of a person or their behavior) Tending to attract attention because of their exuberance, confidence, and stylishness.
(esp. of clothing) Noticeable because brightly colored, highly patterned, or unusual in style.

Sorry. I was using the word "just" synonymously with "recently". In fact, I'll alter it. :) I was a bit of a latecomer to this story, myself.

Bollocks. There's video footage of her getting the news as she was being interviewed at the time. Was on the news the day of Ghadafi's death.

That footage shows her being told of unconfirmed reports of his capture. Here is what Dean is referring to, sometime later:

No, it isn't. :)

By the way; It seems that he was killed after a US drone strike on his convoy. It looks as though rebels found him hiding in a drain pipe or something to that effect near the scene of the drone attack and was later executed by them.

Yea,....that seems to be the story that all the mainstream news sources are telling.

Bullet through the head. Point-blank.

I'm actually annoyed - how did everyone think this was going to end? I mean, honestly, a load of civilian rebels as the primary fighting force (the same rebels that had been oppressed and hurt by the tyrant's regime) - you're going to expect them to behave professionally and just arrest him? And now the rest of the world seems so distraught and disappointed in this action coming for it's round-turn.

We all knew how this was going to turn out. And, if you didn't, you're a soft ninny. History has shown, time and time again, that the fall of regimes by a rebellion more often than not coincides with the immediate execution of the oppressor at the hands of the oppressed.

Come on - we all felt that burst of joy in our hearts when Vader threw Palpatine to his death and the ultimate war machine exploded as everyone flew off into the distance. There's quite a reason that it occurs, and it has more to do with the type of warfare that usually comes with tyrants versus their own people.

Good riddance.

The conservatives I hang out with aren't happy about this, and they have a decent enough reason; given that the new regime is built on the bodies of the old, what are the odds they'll be no better then Ghadafi was in his time?

Well you could say that about any revolution ever.

STOLE MY WORDS FROM BENEATH ME OWN FINGERS FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUU-

Yeah. The same could be said about any conflict ever in history - including the American Revolution or the fall of the Third Reich.
