From the Texan Bill of "Rights."

"Marriage in this state shall consist only of the union of one man and one woman.

(b) This state or a political subdivision of this state may not create or recognize any legal status identical or similar to marriage."

It makes me sad I live directly to the East of Texas.

Yeah, I heard about this it's pretty amusing. I wonder when they are going to fix it.

I've stated my relative indifference to the issue of gay marriage in other threads (and not wanting to get the thread sidetracked). But one must just smile in glee at the beautiful irony of this ("You can't take marriage from us straights, its a fundamental right... we can take it away from those gay couples though").

It also speaks greatly as to the level of professionalism and skill of the legal community in Texas that they (and the voters) missed picking up on it till after it became law.

It's what happens when you leave the vetting to the steers instead of the queers.

It's a non-issue. Marriages are still recognized as legally binding by the rest of the state regardless of the text of the bill. Chances are they will amend it as best they can to keep same-sex marriage outlawed without including any language that specifically excludes a group of people.

That's friggin' awesome. I've been pushing a bill like that for years, and I'm glad the citizens spoke out on the issue.
