Or, rather 'Là¥t den rätte komma in.' I watched this a while ago, and have no idea why I've waited until now to mention it, but it's a damned good film.

Sadly, my Swedish is pretty piss-poor (hardly enough even to sing House of the Rising Sun), so I was fairly dependent on the subs. Even so it's quite powerful; a sweet little Scandinavian story of young love and blood-sucking hellspawn. I imagine this is what Twilight was trying to be... and utterly failed at.

It is unfair to mention that "Twilight" garbage in the same post as this film. I'm a couple of days from starting to read the actual novel, but I've seen the film and it is as good as any film, horror or otherwise, that I've seen in the last couple of years... and I watch more movies than everyone I know.

This movie is just like an anime. Kid, being bullied, sudden-appearance of a super powered gf, coming of age, and a touch of romantic horror.

Yeah, I would second the subbed over dubbed argument. The actual dialog and subtle bits of inflection are half of the performance. When you turn that over to some voice actors in a studio, you certainly lose quite a bit.

I saw this on IFC or some similar film channel, and I didn't have this issue. I'm assuming you torrented a copy, so perhaps try another?

I have a copy without subs. So I had to download open source subs.

On the issue of sub over dub, I agree. Of course this never crossed my mind.

Consequently there is a remake of this film which will be released this October.

Maybe it's just me, but I find that the Swedish language is very intuitive to English speakers; more so, perhaps, then even more closely related languages like Dutch.

In both this film, and the The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, I find myself naturally picking up much of what's said. With the addition of subtitles it almost becomes possible to follow the character's sentences directly.

This is contrasted to other foreign-language films, such as anime, where a lot is missed until you start to pick up on the culture's idiom.

Well I don't want to jack this into an Anime thread, but half the fun of, for instance, Champloo or FMP, is realizing how they're making fun of themselves.

Mmm I loved this movie, saw it a long time ago, like when it was just released, a few times. Absolutely brilliant, captured a nice mix of horror, black humour, love, and innocence.

ONE scene sort of ruined it for me... that would be the cat lady scene.... >.<

Because of that scene, the others can be seen as great. Therefore it serves the purpose of a throw away scene. Hehe.

So I am surprised no one has mentioned the American-British version that's set to be released soon. It's based as much on the film than on the original novel (at least I think I read that some where). No I'm usually extremely skeptical towards american re-recordings, but to be completely fair, the trailer doesn't look like complete trash.



It looks like they have focused a bit more on the horror-elements.

As far as the comic book goes, yes, it is being made. However, John Ajvide Lindqvist (the author of the original novel) has said:

"Nobody has asked me about [doing a comic] and I think that the project stinks. I am looking into this matter and hope that they have no right to do this.""
