League of Treason?

Re: Leage of Treason?

It's a celebratory event, every year it gets changed at around this time. I forgot why, but I think someone accused the League of something or other.

I love that this thread title pops up almost every year. We have at least three other unique headers I can think of, but none piques the interest as much as this one. :D

Good times.

Greetings,

We should, at least, get the thread title right...

Kindest regards,

James

I remember seeing this a year or two ago and thinking that the forum had been hacked.

Perhaps this should be a sticky?

Nah, it's much more entertaining when newer members are surprised.

The original thread, should anyone be interested, is here.

I do so love it when people take the name of the forum more seriously than we do. HAPPY LEAGUE OF TREASON DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I forget about this every year until the logo comes up. At the time of this debacle, I was pretty heavily involved with the set up of Ratskep, which had only been open for business for a few weeks, and I was mostly still concentrating on trying to get the word out to as many of the former members as possible.

Come to think of it, haven't seen anything of AW since around that time...

Hytegia is still in the navy I think. Don't know what happened to borro or ImprobableJoe.

aeritano went to Europe and FatStupidAmerican got in an accident and I think he's still in traction (full quad I think). DepricatedZero is still here lurking ( at least I believe in my heart :) )

Joe ragequit when he couldn't understand why people here weren't buying what the fucksticks who came up with Atheism Plus were selling.

Yeah, I think he got fed up with internet drama (due in no small part I suspect to Thunderf00t et al and the change in their output and/or focus) as well as moving onwards and particularly upwards in his life. I've contacted him a few times, but beyond agreeing to a chat (but not replying, the swine!) about the site when CosmicSpork left and I took over, he hasn't really bothered. Can't really blame him for moving on, though; the site's original function is basically moot, and his presence isn't a requisite. He's always in my signature, however, because it succinctly describes the reason I didn't want the site to close down, and why I decided to host it myself, despite being only an amateur web twat chappie.

Although he's technically still an administrator (Austra and I felt it was appropriate), he's no longer an active member. Which is a shame, he's a good guy.

Last time we spoke, Hytegia was on leave, possibly for good IIRC. Does the Navy have bomb disposal guys? I'm pretty certain that was his job... Although he could be uncontrollable, (in a completely different way to hackenslash, who is simply a force of nature), I miss his voice on these boards, including his pagan viewpoint. I like a bit of anarchy...
Don't know what happened to borro or ImprobableJoe.

Borrofburi (I could never spell his name and hope it's correct; if you're reading this dude, let me know what your username means!) still frequents (hidden) now and again, and when we last spoke, he wanted to maintain his moderator position. I'm sure he'd enjoy a little reminisce too, so might direct him to this thread...

As for Joe, well, he's Joe. Self-proclaimed longest serving atheist on the web (although I don't doubt he pissed off a lot of people on Usenet!). He disagreed with those whose views of Atheism + differed from his, although if I remember it correctly, the disagreement wasn't with principles of the "movement" per se, I think most members engaged in the discussion agreed philosophically with him, but couldn't quite figure out the utility of it all. Also, given how it started, as a somewhat elitist clique, it seemed somewhat of an echo chamber. Not sure what offended him precisely, as he wouldn't respond to me and blocked me on the Twitter. Still, we had a few good chats, and he was the first host on The League of Reason Presents...

Which, if anyone wants to kick off again, sporadically or regularly, let me know. The facilities are still available. Actually, some of the contributors and staff recently talked about working toward reinvigorating (or possibly re-purposing somewhat) the YouTube channel. Ideas welcome.

Back on Joe, he was also something of a loss for the site, was a unique character.

I remember aeritano only vaguely as we didn't cross paths often, although I think I may have had a go at her (him? Can't remember) when I'd misunderstood a joke in the moderators forum. It's rather pathetic that my main memory of someone is of being a bellend.

FSA sometimes pops into the chat, but I don't frequent it much, and haven't seen him there for some time. Nice fellow as I recall. Quick witted.

DZ is still a chat moderator, and stops by from time to time to let us know he's cool. Because he is definitely cool, particularly when wearing a hat. Always handy if I require some l33t h4xx0r sk1llz. His life, as I understand it is pretty good, having achieved many of the things he wants from life, which is bloody grand. Great chap, would definitely buy him some gin and have a laugh in t'pub.

It might be apparent if you've read this far down, but I'm a little drunk and memory lane seemed like a good path to take on the way to bed.

Thanks for all the contributions over the years, chaps and chapettes. We'll continue to be here at least until I die (likely because I've upset someone on a train at five in the morning on my way to my IRL job, and they're somewhat stabby).

:D  :D

Greetings,

Borrofburi = I rub for Rob (!?)

I remember years ago when I was a member of a computer security forum - now closed down - where there was a member called Nosirrah.

At the time I thought it meant "No Sirrah(!)" - I used that once, upon which he said he was often bemused as to what people thought his user name meant.

He explained it was simply his surname backwards.

Kindest regards,

James

He certainly is, and extremely giving of his knowledge.

Also, while I don't do job-envy, if I did, it would be his I envied.
