Laura Ingraham vs. Atheist

arg-fallbackName="Netheralian"/>
How does this woman run a news show - she has the most annoying whiny voice I have ever heard...

Must've gotten lessons from O'Reilly. I love how she says "put-upon" and then proceeds to talk her way to the end of the show as to not be proven wrong.

Is there a reason why Annie Laurie Gaynor is allowed to speak in public to represent atheists? She was TERRIBLE.

Its a lose-lose situation for any Atheist to appear on Faux News.

If you are the respectful, fact-filled person we should all be, you'll get talked over and yelled out.

if you fight fire with fire and inform them of their delusions and absurdities, your are the one being unreasonable despite them yelling first.

I think you can beat them by being calm but forceful, and call them out in a funny way. I think if you're going to throw some weak intellectual sauce at them, you might as well not even bother. It is OK to knock them down too... because you're not going to convince the host of those shows either way, but maybe you can at least come off as having a solid position.

That's why they have her on. I agree with Cyberdraco. The only benefit to going on Fox "News" is exposure. And just for the record, Laura Ingram is a shit sucking, fucking cunt of an interviewer. How deplorable. I hated watching her treat someone like that. I don't care whether they're atheist or not. What a cow.

id tried to make sense of what the conversation is about and where it was going, but it seemed to me it was nothing more then atheist-bashing.

Her snide remarks when talking about the proportion of FFRF members to overall population and the amount of FFRF charity volunteers compared to Christian ones enraged me the most.

Dear Darwin I want to slap that Fox News woman.

However, the atheist's insistence that "there is no god" was a stupid way to go about it, I liked the UK version better, "there probably is no god" because at least it makes sense.

The contradictory things Ingraham was saying makes my blood boil. First she sneers at the overwhelming majority of Christians in the US, and then she turns around and say that Christians have been "put upon" as if they were a suffering minority of any sort.

Why is american cable news so damn pathetic? It has devolved into mere entertainment and does absolutely nothing to enlighten the american public.

probably because "enlightenment" doesn't command enough market share :p

Ugh... I feel bad for you American guys, we don't have anything as ridiculous - that I know of - as Fox News in the UK. It's just insultingly biased and stupid.
I don't think that those advertisements are helping the cause at all. Saying something like 'that's right, there is no god' is just going to make religious people go, "oh yeah? fuck you, I'm not going to listen to what you have to say at all". You know? It's just going to close up their minds instead of opening them.

The Daily Mail and Express come pretty close... Even if they're not actually on TV, some of the stuff they say is almost neo-fascist:
"It's always the immigrants' fault!"
"That poor nurse is being oppressed for being asked to not preach at patients!"
"Homosexuals are scum!"
"Global warming is a myth! We want our inefficient, power-hungry lightbulbs back!" (yes, they actually got worked up about lightbulbs!)

I agree, I know of both Switzerland and Germany, that the most stupid kinds of papers are the best-selling ones. The Swiss "Blick", and the German "Bild" are very successful and full of bullshit.

On the other hand, both of these coutries have government funded TV which is quite good. Most people watch the 1st or 2nd state TV (SF1,2 in Switzerland, ARD, ZDF and regional channels in Germany) on a regular basis and get well informed by more or less unbiased news. This is a key difference to the US where so many people are being influenced by this inane FOX network.

We also have some stupid channels though, all private ones. The RTL group has lots of rubbish, especially in the afternoon and for young people. State TV seems to be too boring for the young. But TV is kinda stupid in general anyway. I hate watching TV. I either download stuff I want to watch, or I read it on the internet.
