Jeremy Clarkson sacked

So apparently after a 20 minute verbal tirade, and a 30 second physical assault that caused his bloodied producer to drive himself to hospital, Jeremy Clarkson has been sacked by the BBC.

I don't particularly care in and of itself, save for the fact that there is public outrage about this. If you remove his name from the description of the event what you have is "a man assaults his colleague after 20 minutes of verbal abuse"---a clear cut case of bullying in the workplace. I really don't understand the mentality that goes with, its okay (or it's not racist) when Clarkson does it.

Fuck him, he doesn't deserve to work again.

I put this in the politics section because after Boris Johnson and David Cameron both came out in his defense, it's quite clear that this incident and Clarkson as an individual represents a certain political agenda and ideology. That being 'fuck you and your workers rights, I'm rich and I do what I want' which I think should probably be the campaign slogan for the Conservatives.

I like Top Gear and Clarkson but he has only himself to blame. As you said, it was a clear case of bullying at work. Unacceptable really.

I think now there's a police investigation into the matter.

The thing that annoyed me the most is that the producer attacked by Clarkson was later attacked verbally on the Internet by, so called, Top Gear fans who apparently blame him for Clarkson's sacking. And it really wasn't a sacking. From what I know his contract wasn't renewed (it runs out in a few days).

I'm interested to see what happens with Top Gear. As much as I like Clarkson, I didn't appreciate his take on climate change.
If they continue to make Top Gear I hope they'll change things a bit. Motor industry slowly moving to electric cars is something that Top Gear almost missed.

I hope May and Hammond will stay on Top Gear, May in particular. One of the main things about the show that works is the chemistry between the presenters. It shouldn't be that hard to find a replacement imbecile, no? :)

R.I.P. Top gear. I can't really see it being succesfull without Clarkson. The main thing that made the show is the chemistry between Clarkson, May and Hammond. You might call him an imbecile but finding one with chemistry like that just might be impossible. Not to mention that May and Hammond might not want to make a show without him. Personal guess; they all will skip ship, probably with some of the shows writers, and start is anew with a new name and a new channel.

P.S. I find it a bit strange that Clarksons contract was up for renewal in the middle of filming the new series. One would think that BBC made sure that he'd be contracted untill the end of season at least.

Might be a funding thing, budgets often begin in April.

I did find Top Gear entertaining on occasion, but Clarkson is a racist bigot. The whole 'N-word' fiasco cemented that. He tried to hide it, and made a forced apology when he was caught out. He even said in his apology that he tried to hide that take so no one would see it, because he "hates" the N-word. I don't know of anyone that hate's that word that would casually say it as part of a pointless nursery rhyme.

Enjoying Top Gear is irrelevant, if you believe in one-standard for all. If you would expect that if someone physically assaulted you at work they would get the sack, then you have to accept that Clarkson deserves what he got. Otherwise you stand against that, and against rudimentary workers rights.

Greetings,

Personally, I always found him annoying with his boy-racer attitude to fast cars on normal roads.

His tirade may have been the final straw and/or a useful means of getting rid of him.

May and Hammond may get on well without him - it would be interesting to see how they fare.

Kindest regards,

James
