Is Religion Good for the World?

From those who know me from the TheThinkingAtheist forum, I made a new video:
Tell me what you think.

Stopped watching at 2:30 as well. The video formatting needs work and the music overlaid was getting too far into Zeitgeist territory for my tastes.

Also, shouldn't this be in the Shameless Self Promotion thread?

I think that religion can be good for the world. It may even be necessary in the sense that we can't expect everybody to be able to view the world completely objectively overnight, and still be able to derive meaning and motivation from it. And spiritual traditions are an artful way of dressing up our emotional relationship with reality. I don't want to see that go away.

I just want people to figure out that individual human rights should always come first. And it's the people who haven't figured that out yet, that are killing religion. The people who turn tradition into an excuse to be paranoid and to distrust people who think and live differently. If anyone's going to destroy religion it's them.

Yeah. There should be questions, don't get me wrong. But answers tend to run out of our league, especially when fed into conspiracy, imo.

Give facts...

As for some constructive criticism, I'd say use some better editing software if you really want your videos to attract attention. The quality of the clips has really been diminished and distorted presumably during the editing process which doesn't give the viewer anything pretty to look at.

Also the music was a bit off-putting in places. It almost trivialized the point of the video and made it seem like a trailer for a bad film. I'd prefer to see it with more subtle music, if any at all.

For the above reasons, I didn't make it to the end of the video, and I suspect others might also be inclined to do so too.

Try as I might, I can't find much wrong with what Jesus said about loving one another, feeding the hungry, housing the homeless, clothing the destitute, tending the sick, visiting the prisoners, looking after the poor,
or am i missing something?

Yeah, even real people say those things :)
