Is America A Christian Nation because of the colonies?

arg-fallbackName="xxdjsethxx"/>
Most of the founding fathers were not very fond of religion from what I know. Many have quotes/statements which show they were surely more for a secular government with no religion being involved. It was not till the early 1900s that God was more added into this country then it is now (I some-what feel the Scopes Monkey Trial started the big heat back in the 1930s) But religion has been around in some form in most governments since the start for it to be a Polytheism or Monotheism religion.

I do think the subject that the USA was founded on Christianity started to catch fire again during the Bush administration (along with the Reagan admin too) Hopefully we can put out the flames since it does not belong to be within the government imo

Many claim that the colonies were founded christian, which is true, but claiming that the colonies were te foundation of america is wrong. America revolted against The Colonies (and therefore britan) for a seperare nation away from England.

Well first off no it wasn't a Christian Nation and never has been. Yes a lot of Christian people came over here amusingly enough fleeing religious persecution only to... well... start the cycle over again!

However thanks to the founding fathers most of that was put in the past and left there.

our foundation was freedom, one of those being of religion, so there is no foundation on any one religion, Christianity.
Exactly. While our population is a Christian majority, it doesnt mean everyone should bow down to them.

Some colonies were founded by protestants and quakers. Some were founded by conquistidors and some were founded by the french... but most were founded due to overcrowding expansionism and needing land to produce cash crops such as tobacco.

The founding fathers were mostly, if anything deists or atheists.

All the founding fathers attended church regularly, not because they believed in god, but rather they were statesmen and church was more a social event where people got together to air problems and such. I do think it was also requirement in some areas but not sure how true that is.

It is interesting to note that the most religiously strict areas were among the most vocal about the need for church and state separation due to what was happening in England or had happened shortly before (can't remember the date exactly) where the Pilgrims' group that stayed in england had waged a civil war and taken over which caused quite a bit of problems.

edit: I'd like to point out that most of the above is actually not taught to americans at anything less than college level and only if you specifically take history classes that cover the subjects which is not required in any degree other than a history degree that i know of. Before college level children are taught Nationalistic history... ie history that makes america as good as possible and as christian as possible. And nothing that happens before or outside of america so it is likely that anything that an american knows about history is wrong.

yea pretty Ironic that most of Europe is more science based and supports evolution and all, compared to how it use to be. Then again the US is still rather young and has yet to learn it's "Lessons".

It looks like Europe is the only part of the world which really has had the experience and outgrew it for the most part. America and Islam are a lot younger and still have to go through "puberty" and have its revolts and such. When both grow up, they'll become more secular.
