Iranium The Movie - Discussion Thread (Watch free online)

Disclaimer: This is not an advertisement. I'm not paid to do this.

Iranium The Movie was just released yesterday for Nationwide (Worldwide?) Free Online Screening Event. You can just go to their website http://www.iraniumthemovie.com/ and watch it for free by entering your email address. It's available for a limited time only (I'm not sure until when), after which they will only do sales of copies.

In a gist, the movie talks about the history of Iran, the current nuclear threats from Iran, and how islamic ideology is driving Iran to become the nuclear power that it wants to be. IMHO, this is one important message very relevant to the world of today. The most shocking thing for me is that Iran could in the future blast an EMP across the US, resulting in eventual death of 9 out of 10 Americans. The second in line is that it could very easily hit European targets including London with nuclear warheads.

Discuss (preferably after watching). One reason why I'm encouraging this discussion is that some of you guys have better abilities and resources to criticize the content of the movie than I do.

PS: Should this have gone to Politics & Law section? I think it better fits in Religion & Irreligion because the political situation is driven by the foundation of a religious ideology. Without religion, this situation would not have occurred.

So far as I know, EMP isn't really a technology that exists. Well, it exists, but only as a nuclear bomb that uses radiation that would kill people before it'd fry any circuits... In which case it's not the death of the circuits but the actual death toll of people.

See EMP on Wiki, especially Starfish Prime and Soviet Test 184.

As for the movie, it claims that Iran could detonate a HEMP (high-altitude EMP) nuclear bomb in the skies of US (right in the middle of the map) and cause an EMP shockwave across the land reaching to around 90% of surface area. If people don't die from radiation, they would eventually die from lack of basic services that require electronic and electrical devices.

From what I read on Wiki, at least half of what the movie says could be right. Perhaps fully right, because the tests of Starfish Prime had minimal effects on vacuum tubes of 1960's but today we use solid state electronics extensively, which are much more vulnerable to an EMP attack.

Does anyone know how long the film is free for?

In order to do this, they would need a delivery system that could put a warhead into the high-atmosphere over the United States. They do not have this. Nor, in point of fact, does North Korea. And neither country seems likely to develop the technology any time soon.

Now I know there are people who say, "well surely if they can build a nuclear bomb, they can't be that far off," but this is a mistake. The missile technology required to do this is much more technically demanding - the sort of thing that would require an Iranian space program to achieve.

Not to mention the fact that our retaliatory strike would be swift and devastating.

This is idle fantasy. It will never happen.

How can you destroy such religious lunacy?

I don't know how long they will keep it available for free, but of course there are other ways to get it :twisted: (not encouraging anything :mrgreen:)

Wow, nice. (And scary if NK actually achieves all those stated in the game's premise!)

Yea it's something similar, but Rex has a point. In the game trailer, the fictional NK has reached the level of technological sophistication required for an EMP over the US as evidenced by the launch of their own satellite.

@Don-Sama: I wish I knew...
