In Salem this week

And I've never seen a bigger concentration of bullshit in a single area. The worst has to be the Salem Witch Museum, which while containing a semi-accurate depiction of the events of the witch trials, attempts to paint Wicca as some kind of extension of ancient Celtic beliefs, rather than the mish-mash of Newage mumbo-jumbo, and neo-paganism that it actually is. They even present a bullshit time-line dating Wicca back to ancient fertility rites, including of all things a Venus statue. The fact that Wicca was largely invented by a new age nutter in the 50's never gets mentioned. And that's of course before you even get out into the street to see the "Vampyres" giving ghost tours. Oh well, at least the lobster is good.

I got real offended when my friend once called me a Wiccan. I'm a Witch than you very much. Do I perform rituals and think that I'm tied to ancient beliefs? Nope.

Wicca is just so... bleeh... gooey.

Gooey, I think you hit the nail on the head. It's a new age mish-mash that is essentially whatever they want it to be. And in Salem it appears to be a way to sell tarot decks, aura photographs, and cold readings to gullible tourists.

What do you mean when you say you are a witch exactly?

Anyway, I went to Salem once around Halloween... it's pretty close to where I live. It was such a silly place, but good for laughs. I didn't really feel like anyone was being serious, but perhaps they are more serious in the off-season. I'd like to think that people know that stuff isn't real, but I know it's not true. Ah well.

Pretty much. I like doing tarot readings and watching those cheesy ghost shows but I don't pretend for a second its in line with reality.

Mostly I call myself a Witch because I think its equally likely for any of the gods to be real... which is pretty darned low! So I rather focus on the major thing we depend on... the fucking Earth :p
