Hello, I'm not sure if this the right place to post this, sorry if it isnt :(

I have a question, which is, If u had the chance to become Immortal, would u take said chance? and why would u?

I know if i was giving the option, i would only take it to watch how our race advances, grows, and evolves.

Only those whose lives are brief can believe that love, is eternal. You should embrace that remarkable illusion. It may be the greatest gift your race has ever received." -Lorien, Babylon 5

No, everything has it's time and everything dies. I can't imagine a worse hell then immortality.

Depends... can I eventually kill myself? Or literally being alive for infinity? I'd probably take the former, a few thousand years would be nice, I'd like to see what happens. The latter sounds like torture.

Long post?
You're new here, for sure. Go browse the forum a bit - and if you look to the left when you make a post, you will realize that there is a 60,000 character limit. We have this bloke named "theyounghistorian" where reading any single one of his posts actually takes some seriously raw willpower.
He's informative. Very, very, very informative.

And it's quite alright. This topic is fun to discuss.

If immortality is a bad thing, how about being allowed to live as long as you wanted. Would that be a better solution?

Or maybe a kind of Ground Hog day with definite number of iterations, that you know and can plan for ....

I would actually choose immortality. 80 years is too short for me so I would rather live a life where I don't have to worry of dying, yes I know it would ruin the magic of things but I've been unemployed for 2 years and I spend them at home, having fun all day. People asked me if I never got bored at home but I actually had fun most days even thought I didn't know when I would get a job. As far as I knew I was going to spend my life like this and I was fine with it. Then some people decided to hire me. My unemployment is like immortality, it was a seemingles endless period of time which allowed me to do anything at any time. Even though people think because you can do everything at any time it would lose its value it's not necessarily true. Sure there's a big difference between 2 years and an eternity but it just show the idea of endlesness doesn't take the fun away.

Like many others above, I cannot conceive immortality as something different of torture. We can speak about longer or shorter spans of time... but eternity?

And rather than an extremely long lifespan (centuries, millenia), I would prefer some forms of reincarnation. To experience again childhood and the first love, growing in a different place, time and environment, the joy of a whole life in front of you without the burden of past mistakes, the chance of committing new ones... And even in this case, I think that I'd go into the dark and the oblivion, eventually.

Agreeing with many, if I have the option of dying when I choose then yes, I'd like to be "immortal" for as long as it is interesting.

Can you imagine a time coming when humanity wipes out the world in some nuclear catastrophe and you are left walking a blasted landscape for for many millions of years...

It depends on why you feel as though you would want to be immoral. As for watching the world grow and change, consider what you believe you will take with you in death and if your lifestyle not matching up with your morals will change your experience of death. What you do morally is your choice, but the effects on your subconsciousness may or may not be predicted, so your risking your entire lifestyle over something small as to a decision, likely for pleasure that counters your morals. Now you must choose between being a being based on instinct or a being based on reason.

I respect your opinion, but may I just say that I would rather die then go through first love again lol :p

I can only imagine that the poor soul cursed to such a fate would go insane within a hundred years or so.

I'm down with it, but only under a "there can be only one" paradigm.
An immortality without swordplay is an immortality not worth having.
