Illuminati

I'm well aware that they apparently disbanded in the 1700s, but I wish they hadn't. From what I hear they were a group which consisted of freethinkers, secularists and liberals. Which doesn't sound too bad to me! Especially in contrast to the Free Masons, which I think a few of my teachers are a part of.

Nothing else to say really, just stating my opinion on the matter.

Eh, from everything I've read about the Bavarian Illuminati they were way to into hierarchies and ritual for my liking. I'd much rather prefer a group of free thinkers that don't require you to memorize some complex secret handshake in order to join. The Illuminati sounded like a glorified debate society anyway. Do you know what they actually did with their time? I mean, say what you will about the Masons and the Shriners, at least they set up burn hospitals and actually help people. Plus, if you're a Shriner you get a kick-ass fez and a tiny car.

As for theories about the current Illuminati, does a single coherent definition for them even exist? The term Illuminati seems to be like the term God, it means something different for every believer. I've heard them compared to being synonymous with 20th Century capitalists, modern bankers, Zionists, Barack Obama and George Bush. Everybody who is anybody apparently has a secret Illuminati decoder ring stashed somewhere. Maybe Niocan, our resident conspiracy fan can explain to me exactly what the Illuminati are supposed to be.

Certainly, my friend :)
The term begs to be anthropomorphized, and it's easy to fall within that trap but the meaning is very simple; The enlightened ones.

Those that know, that understand; The hands behind the chess pieces, as it were. It's a broad term that can be applied to many levels, but the definition itself doesn't say anything of the way this difference of knowledge/understanding is applied; As that is defined by the individuals.

The application by the person, and it's by-products, shows a lot about the individual and their level of understanding in relation to the implied meaning. You can learn a lot about someone, if you understand how they use the words they work with. With this in mind, you may see that most who use this term only do so out of an act of desperation; To try and further define the enemy they seek to shine light on. This act doesn't void the term and it's implied use, but rather gives more light into why such a term is being used widely now then before.

From this, we can say that either the shroud of ignorance is falling or that people are becoming so confused they can't point in any one direction clearly enough for the others to constructively identify.

I'm sure this brings up more questions, but I leave you to decide to continue or not :)

heh, funny story:

Many years ago, shrouded in the mists of time, my good friend, CptDumbDumb was very 'in' to the Illuminati. As a joke we sent some surveillance style photos (real hard photos, before the time of interweb land) to a friend of a friend in Bavaria, explaining who we were and asking him to forward the photos only to CptDumbDumb explaining that when he got the package in the mail he would be suitably freaked out by the Bavarian post mark. Well, for some reason some branch of the Bavarian police opened the letter and hauled our poor unsuspecting participant in for hours of questioning. I guess they didn't believe what they read in the note about it being a prank. Anyhow, they kept CptDumbDumb's photos on file for years thus destroying our practical joke. We told him at least so that he'd know his photos were on file in Bavaria and he could enjoy at least some of the paranoia we intended to inflict upon him.

I think that was the end of my practical joke days.

first part: originally the werent so ritualized, this came after Freiherr von Knigge joined and completely redesigned the structure of that Organisation.
second Part: for one Example they managed to get into(infiltrate) the Bavarian Bureau for forbidden Writings and managed to protect many freethinking Literature from getting banned

Thank you DeHerg. :D

DeHerg's pointed out something that I try to explain to people a lot,.....namely that the truth's lying around in the open for everyone to see.

There are so many conspiracy theories and so many twisted accounts of history whose plausibility is totally dependent on people never actually checking the facts for themselves.
