Just a thought,
If the bible stories where presented as a novel/ screenplay in our time it would have an "R" rating if even allowed to be published or screened at all
If a screenplay was written a about a family escaping a disaster stuck city and a scene where the daughters get Dad drunk and have sex with him,
It would be called immoral and condoning of date rape. Fred Phelps would picket for sure.

I did check up on one apologist website about lot and his daughters but they can't sweep it under the carpet easily.

Forget ratings. With its advocacy of genocide, I'd say its authors (of certain parts obviously) could easily be charged with hate propaganda under the criminal code of Canada. It would be illegal here.

Well Mel Gibson got away with making a snuff film called "The Passion of the Christ". Non stop grinding horror. Just how far would you get with a ratings board if that monstrosity was not based on religion mythology?

A recreation of the mythology != Modernized artistic interpretation of the mythology.

On a related note, someone was telling me about a controversial movie from the 80's about a sort of parallel existence for Jesus. I was told it starts with Jesus being crucified and begging that he could have lived the life of a normal person (in a Pinocchio-esque type manner). The story then shifts into the the reality that Jesus requested where he struggles as a normal man only to end up dissatisfied with his circumstances. The story ends by snapping back to Jesus on the cross where its implied that the alternate reality was actually a dream.

(Sorry if there are any errors. The movie was explained to me by someone with an extremely thick accent and a tendency to ramble. Worst combination every! Think VyckRo :? )

EDIT: I found it... It's called 'The Last Temptation of Christ' by Martin Scorsese (Starring Willem Dafoe as Jesus)

The movie is undoubtedly The Last Temptation of Christ, directed by Martin Scorsese and adapted from the novel of the same name by Nikos Kazantzakis.

ETA: Ah, I see you figured that out.

Sorry... I did some searching before hand but couldn't find anything. Writing the post gave me a couple more search terms to work with. Found it right afterwards

It'd be snuff.

If the Bible were made into a movie as it is actually written? Well first of all it would be a terrible, terrible movie. You'd have a bit of action at the beginning with the creation, and the garden, then you'd have a few nonsensical stories about floods and towers, then you'd have to sit through an hour of lists of people begetting people, and that's before you got to the genocide, slavery and sanctioned rape. Not only would the movie by NC-17, it would be panned as being completely unwatchable.

I think someone should actually do this, as some kind of mammoth project.

It'd be both hilarious and rather interesting to watch at the same time.

I reckon Peter Jackson could do a decent job of it, except it'd be in at least fifteen 3-hour parts. It'd be ok if he did it in Braindead style rather than LotR style.

Given that in the Bible, God kills a couple of million people and Satan kills ten people, it'd be hard to portray Satan as the baddy (I *think* Satan did all his killing with God's permission, since God didn't want to lose his bet with Satan that Job would keep his faith). No wonder God has such a large idiotic PR team.

I think a better question will be how will the critics findit.

Personally im thinking universally negative reception due to black and white morality, uninspired dull or boring characters and an incosistent plot.
