So are you uncomfortable because the video singles out the Koran? I know a lot of people are bothered by that. They like to focus on Christianity, which is a "soft" target, and they tread lightly when it comes to Judaism and Islam because they're afraid of being called a racist.

That's why you'll see a thousand videos on YouTube titled "WHY CHRISTIANITY IS BULLSHIT" but when it comes to Islam all you'll find is Geert Wilders and rednecks who read some fake Koran quotes sent to them in an email (this is hyperbole). Usually you'll see Islam addressed at the end of a video where they say something like "Everything I said about Christianity goes for all the other religions, too: Hinduism, Rastafarianism, uh, Islam, and so on!"

Do you really believe that? Or is it more likely that people just have to deal with Christianity and don't have much interaction with Islam?

And, of course, there IS plenty of racism. You can't deny that much of the attacks on Islam come from Christians and Jews, not from Atheists. When people single out Islam, there is often(not always) a racist element to it.

Also it is generally easier for a western freethinker to attack Christianity due to a greater amount of experience with and knowledge of it. I would have to do some serious studying if I wanted to make a video on Islam.

It has been my experience that a lot of people who post diatribes against Christianity don't have much more than a passing familiarity with that religion, either. To educate themselves they watch Kent Hovind videos, read a few passages of the Bible, and off they go.

It's true that a lot of racism is present on the internet when it comes to criticism of Islam, but that's no reason to back off from such an important subject.

As for that "I don't want to be associated with racists" cop-out, if you don't cake your criticism in racial slurs and you present, reasoned, intelligent arguments as you all certainly put care into doing when you argue against Christianity no one with intelligence will call you racist. Morons and zealouts will call you whatever they will no matter what, so there is no reason to chicken out because of them.

No reason at all to back off of criticism of the religion. If you cross the line into the whole "and that means all 1.2 billion Muslims are barbaric animals" or claim that "only Islam leads to violence" then you're crossing the line into bigotry.

Of course, most of us are really familiar with Christianity in general. Part of the problem with it is that Christianity is made up, and completely subjective. Most CHRISTIANS don't know what is in the Bible, so they think that critics are just making things up. The reality is that most atheists seem to know the Bible better than most Christians.
