At the time I was conceived, light which left Sirius is just now reaching Altair.

Have fun with that.

lets see now. Sirius is 'bout 8.6 light years from us, Altair is about 16.8, about 24 light years apart. From conception to birth 9 months, approx 23 years and 3 months

Nice estimation! But they don't oppose each other perfectly, so they form a hypotenuse of just over 25 light years and my 25th birthday is 9.5 months away.

My age: I don't see how it matters, I'm not telling :p

I have to say I am quite suprised at the results so far, seems LoR attracts the majority of twentysomethings, not that it's a bad thing but it would be nice to have seen a few more 40+ which proves that at least some comments on the boards will have been backed from the more wiser among us!
Come oldies where are you?
I think this is more the result of the internet divide than anything else; not so much that 40+ people don't have access, just that they don't tend to be involved in internet communities as much as, say, twenty-somethings.

That I forgot to take into account. I was just so exited that I remembered Sirius's and Altair's distance without fact checking first. The rest was google!

Older doesn't always mean wiser. Not only is it insulting to the younger generation to relate "being old" to "being wise," but it gives the older generation an excuse to be arrogant about their age. An example of such arrogance is usually seen among parents and teachers.

Yes, I agree that most people as they get older, they get wiser through knowledge and experience. That's because gaining knowledge and experience requires time. But it doesn't mean that somebody who gets older automatically becomes wiser. To claim he has become wiser through his age is sheer arrogance, one which I despise the most.

Well then lets hope those over 40 here are wiser then shall we?

Thanks for tip einstein.

Give me a break.

I agree. I figure that in a couple of decades the demographics for internet traffic will shift, once the current young generation that makes up the majority grows older. I guess eventually it'll be basically everyone using it (but notable demographic differences will remain between sites, of course). Though I think it'd be pretty sweet if older folk of today would use the internet more.

I showed my parents this site (they're in their 40s). My dad thought it was pretty neat but hasn't started posting or anything. He is quite a science fan so I think he'd like it (he's an atheist and recently bought The God Delusion, and he thinks it kicks ass). Maybe if I remind him. :D

My mom wouldn't start posting just because she is religious and gets offended at the drop of a hat by atheists (she thinks Dawkins is "very arrogant").

What i want to know is where are the 80+ year olds?

ahh lets see, they are either...

1. Living out the rest of their days & couldn't care less about the world (who can blame them) with most looking forward to meeting the big man in the sky (well in their minds)
2. Too old to understand or care about computers
3. Using a PC but don't understand the internet & switch it occasionally to look at family snaps
4. Using a PC with internet access but couldn't give 2 flying fucks about online forums
5. Using a PC with internet access who do browse online forums laugh at us all sniggering to themselves "been there, seen it, done it...bless 'em".
6. Using a PC with internet access & might come across the LoR take one look & think WTF?
7. Using a PC with internet access, browse online forums like this & think how funny it is to see a group of kids (to them) think they are the "league of reason", the font of all knowledge & know all about life...PAH!
8. Probably thinking that the Western civilisation has never had it so good & don't understand what people are complaining about here & are thinking a good War will sort things out
9. Generally moaning about EVERYTHING

Which one do you reckon? Feel free to add more.

BTW - I put 80+ in the poll to be politically correct
