While gory and scary, I would put Alien in the Sci-fi genre before I put it in the Horror genre.
Horror movies are either gory and scary or very suspenseful and climatic, Alien is both of these. It is, as was mentioned before, a work of genius. It can transcend, equally, over more than one film genre.

I agree with the thread starter.
Horror movies suck.
They just tend to shock you for a while.
It isn't really scary.

Not a horror movie buff per though I liked carrie, Halloween.

Curious, though, that the Centipede sequel has been banned in the UK....why?

As far as I'm aware, it hasn't been banned. It hasn't received a classification.

The entire enterprise seems to me to be a cynical attempt to wrest money from those comically predictable chumps who define themselves apart from regular society by any means. It never ceases to make me laugh when those types decry being a demographic only to buy into any old crap as long as it doesn't have the sweaty palms of Simon Cowell or Michael Bay all over it.
