Honest Christian

arg-fallbackName="Durakken"/>
What do you mean by honest?

I can say that I have met plenty that are honest to what they think they think.

An honest Christian? If by that you mean they don't lie, then I ask you in response, have you ever met an honest person?

Maybe the question is whether any Christian is intellectually honest when it comes to their religion... which I've only seen in people who were very ignorant, to the point that there wasn't really anything "intellectual" about their belief at all.

I've met many honest christians, though I don't know what definition of honest you are using.

Anyone ever met one? Is it an oxymoron?

I think dishonesty requires you to know your error and a big part of religion is hardwired into your brain when you are young leading to the strangest arguments and the ability to totally ignore some things other people see.
Therefore I think that most christians are honest.

Yes. They're rare and they tend to be humanists in my experience

This is just a stupid name calling thread. The fact that many Christians haven't put thought into their religion does not make them liars.

The fact that they willfully misrepresent what's in the bible makes them liars

The fact that they willfully misrepresent history makes them liars

The fact that they willfully misrepresent people's arguments makes them liars

I've never seen a Christian not lie in a debate

I have. More interesting though is that I've rarely met an honest debating christian who isn't about to be an atheist (I am reminded of that one honest creationist fellow who came here recently, debated his side, consistently lost, and now understands evolution to be a strong theory (which, while not the same thing, is fairly similar)). So have I ever met an honest christian who debates? Yes, but it's rare, and they usually "deconvert" rather shortly after that.

What I have seen is a number of very kind very wonderful and very honest christians (few of which you will ever get to debate). So are there honest christians? Yes, I've seen plenty of them, but you're not terribly likely to see them in debate.

Really? A STUPID name calling thread? Seems like you don't mind, since you decided to join in.

A lot of them are honest, but misled. Unfortunately, part of what they're misled about is the fact that debating religion is supposedly some evil, disrespectful thing, and that religion is really above criticism. (Somehow not believing isn't above criticism, though... ) So even if you catch an honest Christian in a debate, you might as well be debating a dishonest one for all the good you end up doing. There are exceptions...and as has been said, they quickly deconvert...either away from theism or away from honesty. :?

If you mean honest in relation to their beliefs, I don't believe I have. Often I find people who claim to question what they believe, but evidently don't.

No one that I know of is totally honest. I cannot think of anyone that has not told a little white lie or twisted a truth. I think of myself as a basically honest person but I have done things on more than one occasion that I am not proud of. I try not to lie and when I give my word it is my bond. But totally honest no. As far as Christians maybe we could test Tim Tebow . He is as close to an ideal Christian as any that I have ever seen. But if Diogenes was here now he still would not have found an honest man.

I've yet to meet an honest anything. Even my dog is a liar.

Damn thing stole my cookie.

As for honest christians, don't think I know too many christians, at least not evidently so.

Difference between joining in and intervening or objecting.

You missed the word "stupid" didn't you?

You can object to a name calling thread without joining in. If you call it a STUPID name calling thread, you're joining in on the name calling.
