History is a lie... I guess that includes the Bible?

Move this to Conspiracy Theories if you will, I think it belongs in both areas? Anyone have some clues where this lunacy is coming from?

It sounds like he's saying the Great Wall of China was built not long before 1600, or maybe 1000 C.E.? This could be useful. If only it were true. Clear evidence that "God" is a liar and a cheat?

Well, at least it's worth a laugh or two.

I can't believe I watched that whole thing.

I have seen things like this before. There are some people who claim that the entire calender and time system we use is wrong, therefore written history is truly 1000 years or so shorter.

But this video didn't even point to proof. All it did was make claims. It said, truly I assume, that we cannot properly and accurately date most human artifacts and the like by any scientific means. This is for the most part true, carbon dating doesn't really work on objects from the last few thousand years (to my knowledge). He goes on to say that everything hasn't been recorded in a reliable way, and that primary sources are not always accurate. So he concludes that history as we know it is not as it seems.

The problem here is that those are just claims. Claims get nobody nowhere at no speed. I won't refute this, although with some research I am sure I could, but he claims it with no true basis, expecting us to believe it.

There were a few inaccuracies I pointed out right away, although I forgot most of them by now. One I remember seeing was that he claimed nobody really knew their positions on earth until printing. I am pretty sure that astronomy helped in that field ( I am assuming that sailors knew their positions on Earth pretty well), and there were some pretty accurate maps as far back as 150 B.C.E (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Worldmaphedo.jpg)

They aren't completely accurate, but accurate enough for people to know their positions.

I could do some research to refute all the points he mentioned, but just from my gut reaction I realized he was full of crap, simply making claims, and not supporting them.

I would personally put this under conspiracy theory, by the way.

Wow, simply wow. As an archaeologist this kind of makes me weep a single tear of sorrow for another brain down the gutter of ignorance. So the Baghdad battery dated to be 250 BC couldn't possibly be real because electricity was discovered in the 1700's? Not like people can loose technology and then rediscover it. That would be crazy talk. Shoot people don't forget stuff ever. I had extensive courses in Roman history, the chronology of Emperors is pretty straight forward and not at all lacking in support of a pretty old Earth. I think this person is getting his information from Fomenke (I think that's the name). A Russian mathematician who says the chronologies doesn't add up. From what I gathered of his work, He says many historical events are repeats of previous events, so they don't need to be repeated and thus inflate the timescale. So he omits events that he feels are repeated, and then adds events from what he feels is the right time. Basically a lot of subjective play from a person who hasn't been in the field to study the stuff. Ug, I need a vacation.

AAAH! We've been found out. I and every other historian, sociologist, anthropologist, and archeologist have been involved in a massive global conspiracy to fuck with everybody! Now that I've broken the blood-vow of silence, administered to me by the Evil Overlord, I will probably be dead by the time you read this! We would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you damn kids on the internet!.
