That's a bit contradicting isn't it? To say it isn't much different from what you said earlier and yet passively validate with a "good luck with that" under the same breath?

No, it's not. When I said "it isn't much different" I meant my general apathy isn't much different to either case. Next question, prosecutor?

You know I'm actually pretty detached when I genuinely want to figure out how someone is thinking. No need to get so preemptively defensive.

But you've fulfilled the purpose all the same, much more directly. You feel apathy toward students who can't acquire the tools necessary as a means toward an education. Very well. That's you and I hope it isn't an opinion that too many people share.

I'd elaborate on that, as it isn't accurate on its own, but that would be going off topic and I'm alright with being perceived as a cold apathetic person here. Your last word is fine with me.

I think part of the problem is pricing, especially with software. The latest Adobe Photoshop costs ,£667.20 to buy in its full form, if you ask me that is practically begging people to pirate it.

If you were to ask 100 people who showed an interest in using Photoshop, whether they would be willing to pay such a price to get it, I'd wager a lot of them (probably even the majority) would say 'no'. And there's your problem...
Here's the problem with that logic:

Adobe charges that mostly for the right to publish using their software. I've received several free copies of software from Adobe themselves because I agreed not to publish anything I make with it. They aren't overcharging user, and as corporate licenses go they're cheaper than most.

I used to think the same thing. Pricing it that high is begging for it to be stolen. No, they literally give it away if it's not for professional use. Just ask. Politely.
That is what open source is for.
Free Software all the way. I present, the GNU Image Manipulation Program - The GIMP - http://gofree.com/download/Windows-Software/Graphic-Design/gimp.php
Photoshop capability, Linux standards

I disagree with most acts of piracy. That said, I'm a huge fan of the try-before-you-buy or pay-what-you-want model that's begun surfacing. I think that's amazing, and in every instance I've seen it's been rather successful. I recently bought an album for $0 because I was broke. I loved it, and went back on payday and dropped $25 for it. I emailed the artist thanking them and got a response back that that's part of why they like doing it that way - because I got to enjoy their music and pay when it was convenient, and they made a good impression on a fan.

Anyway - I have huge problems with some of what's being called piracy, and especially with the whole concept of "intellectual property rights" that the RIAA and Co. Banner their cause with, but that might be an entirely different discussion.

I wasn't using that to justify piracy for myself, I just think it is probably the main justification that people use for pirating software themselves.

I used to download a lot of stuff but like said earlier, you lose the need with spotify and netflix.

The reason I downloaded was because ,£15 for a cd is a lot and the chances are you might not even like the music. I know I used to buy albums after hearing one song on MTV and really liking it only to find the album was complete balls.

Another point I always thought about music was that, a lot of the bands I listened would have never made it to my ears without the downloading community, bands like Johnny Foreigner and Los campesinos didn't stand a chance in the music industry as it was, but because of downloading I was able to hear them and really enjoy them. I then went to a lot of their shows, I have bought t shirts and vinyls.

The fact is that the actual music industry is bollocks, they make you spend too much money on the crap bands they want to promote, the smaller and in my opinion better bands don't stand a chance unless they spread their music as far wide as possible and then tour it.

All the bands I have ever been in have always released their music for free and we made tour special editions to sell as we went. We had some great gigs which we would never have got if it wasn't for downloading and piracy but of course we weren't doing it for a living so I have no idea on the financial impact, I just know we did a lot better then we would have gig wise.

In terms of TV and film? Yeah, that's just stealing really, there isn't any good side to it I can think of.
