As for why we teach kids scientific facts - it's because scientific facts are useful, they let us understand the world and create applications derived from that understanding which can benefit the lives of everyone.

For example, the computer you're using to rail ineffectually against reality didn't appear after you chanted Hare Krishna 12 times - it came about through rigorous scrutiny of the natural world, through experimentation and testing, and finally with our consequent understanding, we put together such complex machines as allowed us to communicate over vast distances at the speed of light.
