"Here Comes Science" might offend the religious?

arg-fallbackName="DontHurtTheIntersect"/>
They Might Be Giants is releasing a new CD for kids that, as the title infers, is all about Science. It has sort-of kids-y songs, but they are catchy, and cover a wide range of topics like: Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, and I think Physics (all in a elementary manner).

Now, no doubt, the subject matter is going to shove a broomstick up some fundie's asses, with songs titled "Science is Real", "Put it to the Test", and "My Brother the Ape". But despite the fact that the album hasn't even come out yet, some are voicing their objections. A few choice comments show how people feel about "Science is Real":

"Evolution is such bullshit"

"As a Christian I'm offended by comparing unicorns, elves with angels. Unicorns and Elves are fiction, and angels are biblical. End of story" (to read the rest from this guy, scroll down to the comments, select "show all unhelpful posts", and look for the posts by "E.Vage" for some quick luls).

BUY THE ALBUM ON SEPT. 8th!!!

These people keep proving to the rest of us how stupid and ignorant they are with their anti-education and anti-science views. If science offends them so much they can go back to living in caves.

Keep going down the page. One person says this in response:
"Unicorns are real. The bible confirms it."

Huh. Some small part of me is frustrated, because, while I like their music, I wouldn't be inclined to listen to it more often than very rarely, and yet I think it'd be good for people like me to buy their CD(s)...

Music has a very powerful ability to cement ideas in a person's mind, especially in the case of children. I tend to avoid any music that promotes any viewpoint, even one that I agree with, I don't want my beliefs to have an irrational, emotional basis.

Ehm, did you watch the video?
The only "viewpoint" it "promotes" ist that science is reeeaaaaal *sing along*
Only people denying science can object to that
It's like saying we shouldn't make funny songs and rhymes that teach kids about washing their hands after going to the toilet.
I'm actually thinking about getting my daughter the CD for christmas

I'm thinking of getting it for my son and he isn't even two yet!

Try it, my daugther insisted on playing it 4 times in a row and English isn't her first language, and she just turned two

To be fair, "I am a paleontologist" is by far the better song...

Update

Since we opened this CD on Christmas Morning I've had to play it for my Little Man multiple times a day. It's on right now. We all love it. That's for ages 1-43 at least. Don't hesitate to get this album for your family. I give it two thumbs up.

Too true, too true
The DVD is also cool.
Only hubby was criticized the scientific accuracy of "Meet the Elements" :?
Serves me right for marrying a chemical technician

I think my favourite is "I am a Paleontologist"

I'm all for propagating science!

I found something negative on the CD: Lyrics are missing on the booklet.

The sun is a miasma
Of incandescent plasma
The sun's not simply made out of gas
No, no, no

The sun is a quagmire
It's not made of fire
Forget what you've been told in the past

(Plasma!)
Electrons are free
(Plasma!)
A fourth state of matter
Not gas, not liquid, not solid

The sun is no red dwarf
I hope it never morphs
Into some supernova'd collapsed orb
Orb, orb, orb

The sun is a miasma
Of incandescent plasma
I forget what I was told by myself
Elf, elf, elf

(Plasma!)
Electrons are free
(Plasma!)
A fourth state of matter
Not gas, not liquid, not solid

(Plasma!)
Forget that song
(Plasma!)
They got it wrong
That thesis has been rendered invalid

uh, yeah, that's education obsidianavenger. And for young children, rhythm and rhyme is THE PRIMARY way they learn.

@X-man
I know how to find them on the net, but that means I have to copy, edit, arrange, print them to have them with the CD. It's something I dislike about a lot of CDs: No lyrics.
And you're totally right about rhymes: My daughter only speaks little English, but she's word-perfect in a good dozen nursery rhymes and songs.
